The last few months have been a rollercoaster of emotions for Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. Earlier this month, Spoelstra signed a historic 8-year over $120 million contract extension with the Heat, making it the most committed coaching contract in NBA history. While he was taking immense strides in his professional career, he was going through a rough patch in his personal life. Spoelstra finalized his divorce with his wife, Nikki Spoelstra, in November, ending their 7-year-long marriage.

2 months after their divorce, Erik Spoelstra’s ex-wife Nikki took the first step to coaching women on their financial lives amid tough times. In the latest episode of her podcast, The Know with Nikki Spo, Erik Spoelstra’s ex-wife touched upon the topic of ‘Divorce’. For a professional outlook, Nikki called Michelle Suarez as her primary guest for the episode. Suarez is an attorney and the Founder of The Divorce Broker, a boutique firm for legal guidance for women who are going through or contemplating the process of divorce. During the episode, Nikki and Michelle discussed the importance of professional guidance for complicated divorce processes, including pre-nuptial and post-nuptial, settlement agreements, and more.

“I think that a lot of people feel alone in general, not just in divorces, but with whatever they’re going through. So finding a community of people that can support is so important.” Nikki said during the episode. Nikki’s guest, Michelle, got the inspiration to start a firm after she went through her divorce and wondered what it must be like to go through the process alone. Nikki was familiar with the situation as she faced multiple challenges during her divorce from the Miami Heat head coach.

Nikki Spo’s challenges through divorce

Erik and Nikki had to go through a difficult time during their divorce. Nikki is facing the aftermath of her separation from Coach Spo even 2 months after their divorce. Nikki faced a lot of online bullying and harassment after Erik Spoelstra signed his $120 million extension with the Heat. She was trolled for being a gold digger and making money off the head coach’s new contract. Nikki called out her trolls on her Instagram story soon after, “That’s enough bullying and harassment for today CiTy BoYs. Let’s call you what you are. Bullies. Go talk about “it” or me to your homies.”

Despite the online harassment, Erik and Nikki ended their relationship on good terms and continue to co-parent their 3 children. “We are both grateful for our relationship and remain fully committed to co-parenting our children and continuing to make them our shared priority.” The former couple said in a statement. It is great to see Nikki and Erik taking giant leaps in their professional careers after their unfortunate divorce.
