The NBA has 99 problems and locker room privacy is one of them. Or let’s just say it tops them all. After the recent Joel Embiid controversy, many players opened up about their experiences of a post-game locker room swarmed with media personnel. Now, Giannis Antetokounmpo has joined that list to show his frustration on the NBA media’s violation of the players’ sanctuary. And when Giannis opens his bag of stories, it’s bound to be an interesting one, with the latest addition following the same trend.

Giannis was in the coziest environment on the Thanalysis Show with his brother, discussing various aspects of basketball. One thing led to another, and Thanasis recalled a locker room incident involving ESPN reporter Malika Andrews. He allowed the Greek Freak to open up about it and set the record straight. “We were up 2-0 they came back and beat us four straight. And then after the game, somebody approached me in the locker room,” the 30-year-old said.

Giannis was referring to Game 6 of Milwaukee’s 2019 Eastern Conference Finals series loss to the Raptors, which ended with a 4-2 record. After the defeat, Malika Andrews was in the locker room to interview Giannis but he walked off. Continuing his side of the story, the Bucks star said, “There was this, like, article, you know, that Giannis is leaving Milwaukee. And I’m like, bro, I have not even taken a shower yet. I haven’t even washed my b*tt yet. What’s going on?” It was later assumed that Giannis left because Malika had written an article a few days earlier discussing his future with the Bucks after the franchise’s elimination.

Regarding his sudden reaction of walking out, Giannis said, “(I) think I was zoned out because, you know, obviously, that was my first time being in that stage. I was 24 years old. I was young. Maybe I didn’t know how to deal with it at the time.” He did come back and completed the Q&A session. But things kept feeling off to him. So, he took a step to make it right.

Giannis reacted out of frustration, but he soon realized it wasn’t the right thing to do. “But, man, I felt so bad,” he admitted on the show. “I didn’t have your number,” because exchanging numbers didn’t seem like a good idea at the time. “So I find I think on Twitter. And I’m like, I’m so sorry for the way I reacted. You did not deserve this,” he apologized to Malika on the same day.

Next thing you know, their relationship was mended. However, Giannis expressed being upset because Malika had promised to invite him to her wedding with ESPN colleague Dave McMenamin, but she didn’t. Soon, the atmosphere on set was filled with cheer.

Giannis might have been 24 years old back then, but he certainly knew how to treat people right, which made Thanasis even prouder of his brother and their mother’s strong upbringing.
