A different side of Anthony Edwards emerged in Netflix’s ‘Starting 5’ sports series. On the court, he’s ferocious and limitless in his pursuit to win. But once he comes home, he is “a whole another person”. Much of it has to do with his responsibilities as a father. At first, he claimed his dog, Ant Jr. to be a “son”. But during the midst of last season, he and his girlfriend Shannon welcomed their first daughter to into the world.

During the docuseries, the cameras gave way to Edwards’ life leading up to the birth of his daughter, who Shannon calls AJE. Excited is how Edwards’ emotions at the time can be summed up. He even left a Timberwolves game at halftime just to be present when his daughter arrived into the world.

In his journey as a father, which he describes as the “best feeling,” not every part of the process was enjoyable for him. On the show Starting 5, his longtime girlfriend revealed the Wolves star’s aversion to her pregnant belly and how she playfully used it to annoy him. “He hates my belly. So I walk around and torture him looking like this and at night when she kicking, I put my stomach on his back and she kicks him. He gets annoyed because he is like ‘How am I supposed to sleep,” she shared on the Netflix series.

Everything since, though, has been all love and compassion. Shannon has shared several instances of Edwards’ joys of fatherhood and devoting his time to look after their daughter. From the moment he first saw Aislynn, Edwards’ infatuation was evident. The vivacious NBA star couldn’t take her eyes off her, saying “s–t crazy” as the doctors weighed her. Still, his lively persona was on full display when he misunderstood the placenta to be his girlfriend’s liver.

Anthony Edwards is in a legal battle

Amidst the Netflix revelation, detailing his story of becoming a father, Edwards has reportedly filed a petition against Lil Baby’s ex-girlfriend, Ayesha Howard. According to PageSix in an exclusive report, Edwards the petition is for paternity and child support. The 23-year-old is asking for a genetic test to be performed to examine whether the child is his.

According to court documents: “If genetic testing shows that the petitioner is the father, the petitioner requests an order establishing the minor child’s paternity”.

Howard, who has amassed a social media following of over half a million, has an elder son named Jason with rapper Lil Baby. She hasn’t publicly revealed or spoken about another pregnancy. She last posted on social media on May 21. Apart from Aislynn, Edwards has reportedly fathered two more children. Amir, with “Ally D,” and his first child, Aris, with a woman named Daja, according to PageSix

Both parties’ representatives have yet to comment on the legal battle. PageSix reports the status conference for the case is scheduled for November 13 later this year.
