In the aftermath of the Lakers vs Nuggets matchup last night, Lakers’ Shooting Guard, Austin Reaves, took a moment to reflect on the 114-103 loss and the challenges of facing such a formidable opponent. In a reflective post-match interview, Reaves discussed the frustration of “clustered mistakes” and the difficult task of slowing down a fierce opponent.

“Did it feel like the mistakes kind of clustered tonight? And when they cluster against a team that is so dangerous, how deflating are those stretches?” Reaves was asked, prompting a response where the player talked about the toll of competing against a team of such calibre.
“They’re super frustrating obviously, you know especially against a team like them like you said…you almost have to win a perfect game anyway cause they don’t really make mistakes,” he said, expressing both respect and exasperation. This is a sentiment that anyone who has witnessed the Nuggets play can share.
Denver has the ability to capitalize on even the smallest windows of error. “They know exactly what they’re gonna get; an action that they’re very comfortable with and have run a million times,” Reaves explained, underscoring the opponent’s effortless execution.
The conversation slowly shifted towards the importance of taking control of the situation before the opponent utilizes the window and Reaves emphasized the need for playing strategically in the face of such a situation.
“We just gotta control the flip flop of that, we gotta control their 7-0 runs, do the same exact thing and get a possession…to kind of deflate those runs,” he remarked, highlighting the adjustments that the Lakers need to make to stay on par with a team like the Nuggets, who can take charge of a game so quickly.
Reflecting on the challenge posed by the opposing team, Austin couldn’t help but express admiration for their consistency. “It’s frustrating cause you know how sound they are as a team,” he admitted, acknowledging the difficulty that can come with having to match their level of performance.
The Lakers have played the Nuggets four times this season now and have not been able to win a single match.
While the loss may sting, Reave’s introspective analysis offers valuable insights into how the Lakers might have to strategize mentally and physically ahead of their upcoming match against the Nuggets. As the Lakers regroup and prepare for the match on Monday, Austin’s words might be an important lesson for his team to learn from their mistakes to finally get a win against Denver this season. Catch the two face off against each other in the first round of playoffs on April 22, 10 pm EST.
