Seeing Wembanyama bloodied but determined—does this prove he's got what it takes to be a legend?

Blood, sweat, and tears – the formula for Victor Wembanyama‘s thrilling win against Germany tonight. Even when the game got off to a rough start, France managed to catch up by halftime, tying the score 33-33. And even when Wemby again did not perform well, Isaïa Cordinier and Geurschon Yabusele covered for him, staying almost neck-to-neck until they finally emerged victorious with a 73-69. As Germany’s hope of securing their first silver medal seems to have gone awry, the host country is guaranteed to walk away with their 12 and 2 consecutive Silver Medal.

NBA Rookie of the Year managed to be a prominent presence during his 32 minutes on the court, despite the scratches on his neck. With blood reaching his jersey, he had to exit the game as he tried to hold back tears. Yet his excitement did not drop in the post-game pressers. For him, it was nothing but a minor injury.

“In our national anthem, we talk about blood too. We are willing to leave the blood on the court. It’s not a big deal. If it allows us to win gold, I’m in.” More than the blood, Wemby was looking forward to making history right in his place of origin. “This is why I’ve been trying to keep some of that emotion inside. It was a special moment with the fans. They made it hard not to cry.”

France’s progression through the Olympics was a scenario that Victor Wembanyama had already envisioned. After the memorable win, a social media user highlighted the 20-year-old’s words from back in March. Knowing what awaits him after a memorable rookie season, the young star had promised, “The 2024 Paris Olympics are the perfect opportunity to win my first title with France. My goal is to beat the USA in the final.”

With Team USA facing Serbia right now, it’s only a matter of time till it is confirmed whether Wemby will go up against the Dream Team 2.0 and fulfill that promise. Plus, he’s got a big motive now! If USA emerges the winner in their matchup against Serbia, Wemby will get to face LeBron James and shut down his opinions over him and Team France.

LeBron James wasn’t impressed with Victor Wembanyama during France’s matchup against Canada

Have an interesting take?

Yes! The aging NBA superstar who’s dominated the basketball landscape for 2 decades wasn’t happy with France’s performance against Canada. In an interview with the Washington Post, Bron did not sugarcoat things, saying, “I wasn’t very impressed with their last game. I didn’t think they were ready for the physicality of Germany. Other than that, they were playing some good ball.”

Bron feels that it was actually Germany and Canada who demonstrated the physicality and the skills in their gameplay, making them tough competitors in crucial games. But seeing that Wemby and co defeated them both, will the 39-year-old eat his own words now?
