Everyone seems to be catching the Halloween spirit, including hoops legend LeBron James and his beloved family. The Chosen One has been slaying in his Halloween outfits in recent years but in his formative years? Maybe not so much. In 2008, Bron channeled his inner John Travolta, dressing up as a character from Grease with a leather jacket, dark shades, and a wig to complete the look! In 2015, the veteran paid tribute to music icon Prince, sporting a wig and a coat similar to the singer’s signature style.

But after 2016, LeBron James took his Halloween game a few notches higher. Well, some would say many notches, and call his outfits creepier… In 2017, he transformed into Pennywise, the terrifying clown from Stephen King’s IT, who had gained popularity again with the movie remake. By 2018, he went as Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, donning a hockey mask and carrying an ax to portray one of the most iconic horror villains! The following year, he dressed up as Edward Scissorhands, wearing full black attire, makeup, and outfitting his hands with faux scissor blades in homage to the character from Tim Burton’s 1990 film starring Johnny Depp.

By 2021, King James brought Freddy Krueger back to life in a Nightmare on Elm Street costume, featuring a faded fedora, red and tan striped sweater, and a glove with bladed fingers, with makeup giving his skin a scorched appearance.

Last Halloween, the hooper opted for another Tim Burton character, this time transforming into Beetlejuice from the 1988 film of the same name. If you’ve watched Starting 5, you know LeBron James is a serious fan. He even recited the Michael Keaton monologue from memory! And his family has joined him in his quest for dressing up. So, we now come to Bron’s 2024 edition.

The Laker posted a photo of his daughter, Zhuri, dressed up in her Halloween costume on Instagram. Known for going all out with his own costumes each year, James shared his love for his daughter and took a moment to send Halloween wishes to his fans.

I’m in love with a sweet, loving killer clown,” the 22-season veteran wrote, showcasing his baby girl wearing a funky-themed costume. 5 extra points for the makeup! “Happy Halloween folks!” LeBron concluded, by expressing his wishes to fans.

What’s your perspective on:

Is LeBron James the true king of Halloween with his jaw-dropping costume transformations?

Have an interesting take?

In 2016, he appeared as Jerome, the character played by Martin Lawrence in the TV series Martin. That same year, James and the Cleveland Cavaliers threw a party celebrating their 2016 Finals victory over the Golden State Warriors. The celebration included decor that poked fun at the Warriors’ blown 3-1 lead, as well as snacks shaped like tombstones featuring the names of Warriors players.

Now that we’ve established how serious the James family is about Halloween, let us take a look at other hoopers and who they dressed up as.

Victor Wembanyama slays in his second season as well!

In his rookie season, Victor Wembanyama put up impressive numbers, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 blocks over 29.7 minutes per game, alongside an also impressive costume on Halloween. Early in the 2024-25 season, though, the young gun’s stats have shifted. He’s recording 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.8 blocks in 30.3 minutes each game. Both his shooting accuracy, now at 40.7%, and his three-point percentage, down to 19.0%, have noticeably declined from his rookie year.

But a front where Wemby hasn’t declined is his Halloween game. Last year, he dressed up as Slenderman. He was perfect! His body frame, along with his height, complemented his costume. And this year, the Frenchman may have even topped it. The reigning ROTY made a Halloween entrance dressed as Kaonashi from Spirited Away. He even nailed the walk, gliding slowly ahead like the character!

Tyrese Haliburton, on the other hand, does not put on a costume for Halloween on the day. Hali has been vocal about his passion for Halloween. So, when it was a week away, the Pacer took to Instagram to set the mood by stepping into Michael Jackson’s legendary ‘Thriller” look. A very spooky song, fitting the occasion. It even got a reaction from Caitlin Clark, as she wrote, “So hard omg.”

Another star who dressed up was Russell Westbrook. He dressed as the iconic villain from Batman, the Joker, not as his Nuggets teammate Nikola Jokic, the Joker! Jay Huff took this opportunity to do something very funny, the hooper dressed as his teammate Kyle Kuzma! Rudy Gobert, the reigning DPOY, put on a werewolf mask; maybe he does have the instincts of a wolf! The rest of his costume wasn’t as flashy, a simple t-shirt and pants.
