Ayesha Curry is one of the most popular figures in the Bay Area. Apart from being married to the Warriors superstar, her philanthropy and business endeavors have made her the Bay Area’s heartthrob. However, it was in her Michelin Star restaurant, International Smoke, where she landed in trouble with the former POTUS, Barack Obama.

President Obama made his way to Ayesha’s restaurant in 2019, along with John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. However, what ensued upon his visit probably remains in Ayesha’s memory to this day. She discussed this very incident on the renowned late-night talk show, The Jimmy Kimmel Show.

“He [President Obama] had dinner there. It was so nerve-wracking. Everything was down to the 11th hour. I thought we were just hosting, only to find out we were actually invited to the dinner and I also had to give a welcome speech?”, she said, discussing the night President Obama dined at her restaurant.

“So the way I lightened the mood is by sabering bottles of champagne. I was like, well, just gonna do like usually do and had the knife standing 5 feet behind President Barack Obama and didn’t realize like the secret service is inching towards me”. She then hilariously revealed. Ayesha later remarked, “It happened. Everybody was excited and then everybody let out like a sigh of relief.”

While Ayesha Curry experienced an awkward moment with the President, Stephen Curry drew inspiration from the 62-year-old. A year before Ayesha’s awkward moment, Stephen Curry received a strongly worded e-mail from the former POTUS, prompting a billion-dollar sponsorship deal.

In 2018, Curry made a controversial statement about the moon landing of 1969 that did not sit right with President Obama. In a later interview, Curry recalled that he received a stern scolding from Barack Obama through an e-mail that night. He revealed that the former POTUS reassured him that the first moon landing in 1969, and those after were all real.

Although this may have simply addressed Curry’s statements regarding the historic moment, it inspired him in an uncanny manner. Following this interaction, the Warriors guard designed a pair of sneakers emblazoned with craters and the American flag, partnering with Under Armour and retired astronaut, Scott Kelly. This incident, along with his success in the NBA, prompted Curry to sign a one-of-a-kind lifetime sponsorship with Under Armour valued at $1 billion. Evidently, Curry and his wife Ayesha have had contrasting experiences with the former POTUS, Barack Obama.
