The San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has shown glimpses of his greatness regularly this season. But, it did not surpass the expectations of the Spurs fans, as the team still struggles to find victories in this season. Over the course of the season, fans and experts blamed Wemby’s teammates for not facilitating him with great assists. But, now the fingers are pointed at the team’s legendary coach, Gregg Popovich.
Popovich is currently in his 26th season as the Spurs head coach. Barring his early success with Tim Duncan and co, the 74-year-old hasn’t had much of a success in the last few seasons. More than success, the team failed to even climb up the points table to secure a playoff spot. Amid these circumstances, Gil’s Arena crew threw a fireball comparison at the HoF coach in their latest episode.

In the latest episode of Gil’s Arena, the crew discussed Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young‘s words of praise on Victor Wembanyama. Young stressed that the French baller has the intangibles to make him the best player in the history of the league.
While most of the panel members disagreed with the take, Bomani Jones acknowledged Young’s take and slowly diverted the attention toward Gregg Popovich. He said, “He’s 7’5, he can do all that stuff and he got it in him… Only question is I can’t understand why they so sorry.”
He further reflected on the current state of the Spurs with a poor regular season record even after having a talented baller and pointed his finger at Gregg Popovich. He said, “Somebody not as good as they say… Gregg Popovich is not Like Bill Belichick.”
He compared Popovich to Belichick, the legendary coach of the New England Patriots. He served the Patriots for 24 seasons, and was considered as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.

Following that, the team went for another in 2014 after the inclusion of Kawhi Leonard. He helped the Spurs win all their 5 titles so far. But after that, the Spurs have been struggling to build a similar team.
