Adam Silver has been attracting the rage of the community, one fan after another, through the NBA’s new broadcasting deal and organizations affiliated with it. It is the $76 billion, 11-year signing with Amazon, NBC Sports, and ESPN that will take the beloved TNT panel off the air. Thereafter, the league did not take a step toward the continuation of the Inside the NBA. And when it seemed that it couldn’t be more chaotic for the NBA Commissioner, another broadcasting problem brought Adam Silver and his partners in a further bad light.

Recently, ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro and Disney Entertainment Co-Chairmen Walden and Bergman issued a statement to DirecTV since they’ve stopped broadcasting content. As per the ESPN PR’s X post, the announcement quoted, “DirecTV chose to deny millions of subscribers access to our content just as we head into the Final week of the US Open and gear up for the college football and the opening of the NFL season.” This clarification carried a warning in disguise, as the networks called out DirecTV.

With a little bit of a harsh tone in there, the announcement also included, “While we’re open to offering DirecTV flexibility and terms which we’ve extended to other distributors, we will not enter into an agreement that undervalues the portfolio of television channels and programs. It is a big blow to those who used to enjoy sports through the channel. However, the rage spread into the hoops community and carried on to ESPN and ABC’s boat after Disney and DirecTV couldn’t come to a conclusion.

Fans come thundering down on Adam Silver and the NBA’s broadcasting partners after millions of homes suffered blackout

The biggest issue that enraged fans was that networks like ESPN, ABC, and Disney went dark in millions of homes on Sunday ahead of ABC’s Sunday night broadcast of the LSU-USC season opener. It was a historic game, as both of the college football teams would be facing each other on the gridiron first time after the 1984 season at CT Allegiant Stadium. Witnessing such failure, a fan could not control his agitation as he commented on the X post, “Yall are all greedy scumbags.”

Apparently, the video programming distributor company DirecTV revealed that Disney’s unreasonable demands led to this blackout. The forced channel bundling is a part of it that DirecTV CEO Robert Thun agreed after pay TV was put on life support.

Another fan complied with the aforementioned comment as he replied on the post, “Multiple providers are refusing to bend to the demands of Disney. This press release is absolute garbage.” Actually, U.S. District Judge Margaret M. Garnett, during her Venu Sports ruling earlier this month, emphasized the bad nature of channel bundling. That’s why DirecTV CEO Thun stated, “The Walt Disney Co. is once again refusing any accountability to consumers, distribution partners, and now the American judicial system.”

Another football fan had wanted nothing to do with the rights. He just wanted to enjoy college football, but the blackout irked him as he said, “Fu*k you guys. Did this on purpose minutes before the LSU USC game.” The Trojans have opted to go with the Big Ten League, where various national coaches and competitions are going to challenge the team. Therefore, they might not enter the college football tournament as early as this year.

Amid all the carriage dispute, a fan targeted ESPN itself for the issue, commenting, “Y’all should probably get y’all’s stuff together as well. Your App has been a disaster, very user unfriendly and the NBA Finals broadcast this year was awful.” It seemed like more of a warning call for ESPN as well, since Adam Silver’s longtime NBA broadcasting partner is not standing up to fans’ expectations.
