LeBron James, during his multi-decade-long journey, could’ve earned a different reputation and winning accolades might’ve been a bit more difficult had he not had a good no. 2 by his side. While former teammates Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis are two individuals who have been a constant support, another individual whose contributions cannot be underestimated is former Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade. Almost 10 years after the duo went their separate ways, his contribution is once again being remembered by Udonis Haslem.

Sportscaster Stephen A. Smith recently had the 3-time NBA Champion on his YouTube show. Smith highlighted how pre-Heat and post-Heat LeBron James were two completely different individuals. Adding to it, he believed that D-Wade had a role in shaping the same. Haslem agreed with this assessment, stating that Wade was “the best teammate LeBron ever had”. Having been a member of the Heat roster himself during the iconic LeBron-Wade-Bosh era, he appreciated how DW had more experience within the franchise than Bron, but still chose to step aside and provide full support, making LBJ the #1. “You can have so many great basketball players, but if you don’t have a brotherhood and a connected locker room, the X’s and O’s, the talent will not matter,” said Haslem.

And everyone close to LeBron always embraced him, despite him not being up to speed in 2011, claimed Brian Windhorst.

During LeBron’s four-year tenure in Miami, the partnership between him and Dwyane Wade became a thing for the history books. According to Wade’s wife, Hollywood’s Gabrielle Union, the duo formed such a bond that “If we played ‘The Newlywed Game’, I don’t know if I’d have more information on my husband than Bron would.”

While the All-Time Leading Scorer may have earned the #1 spot on the Heat roster in the future, that wasn’t the situation in the beginning. According to longtime ESPN sportswriter Brian Windhorst, LeBron didn’t play as big of a role in helping the franchise reach the 2011 NBA Finals as his teammate. “The 2011 finals is forgotten in history,” said Windhorst. “Dwyane Wade performance in that finals, it is a crime LeBron didn’t take advantage. Nobody has carried LeBron in a finals like Wade carried him in 2011”.

Coming fresh of his Cavaliers exit, the heckling that LeBron faced reportedly forced him to adopt a villain persona. This, according to podcaster Nick Wright, wore the player down severely and caused him to have “the only true failure of his career”. Luckily, with the assistance of Wade, he was able to gain a new footing and help the franchise secure a championship title next season.
