Is Grant Williams' reckless play a liability for the Hornets, or just part of his aggressive style?

Grant Williams pulls off his infamous antics early in the season. Over the last few seasons, the NBA world has witnessed plenty of nasty on-court altercations involving the 25-year-old forward. Not to forget his beef against Jimmy Butler during the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals. That time, he was Jayson Tatum’s teammate, sporting the Boston Celtics uniform. A season later, Williams has moved teams and currently plays for the Hornets. But that didn’t stop him from producing an ugly play against his former teammate.

With 2 minutes left in tonight’s Celtics-Hornets clash, the Boston side put up a quality basketball show and held a 9-point lead. At that time, JT grabbed a defensive rebound and dribbled the ball up the court. Williams came out of nowhere and crashed into his former teammate, leaving both men on the floor. The refs immediately reviewed the play and slapped a flagrant foul 2 to eject Williams.

Meanwhile, fans in the comments didn’t seem surprised. It was almost as if they expected such a play from Grant Williams. A fan wrote, “Grant Williams crashing out is common.” And another fan wrote, “Such a dirty player, straight up sold his team any chance of coming back now.” Up until the 7-minute mark in the fourth quarter, it was a one-point game. The Celtics must have had flashbacks from the last season.

The Celtics produced a dominant regular season, showcasing a 64-18 record. It seemed almost impossible to beat Jayson Tatum & Co. but the Hornets stunned Boston after they defeated them in a one-off clash at Spectrum Center. LaMelo Ball & Co. had the opportunity to recreate it again but the defending champions pulled back the game, allowing only 8 points in the last 6 minutes.

Fans go all over Williams after the scary Jayson Tatum fall

The Celts fans definitely didn’t receive the play very well. Of course, the Celtics are currently on a dream run and no fan will want it to end prematurely because of an injury. A fan wrote, “Tf was that Grant?” Already, Jayson Tatum struggled with a thumb injury scare early in the first quarter. The superstar had his finger treated on the sidelines early in the game. And seconds after the scary fall, LaMelo Ball almost injured JT’s ankle when he interfered during his jumper. In short, Tatum lived dangerously during tonight’s play.

Another fan seemed to have found the reason for Williams’ nasty act, writing, “Salty he ain’t get a ring.” The 25-year-old was part of the team’s 2022 Finals run when they ended up losing against the Warriors. In the following season, the Celtics got eliminated in the Conference Finals. When it seemed like the Celts would not win a ring anytime soon, the team traded Williams to the Dallas Mavericks.

After a few locker room issues, the Mavs traded him to the Hornets before the deadline. Ironically, the Mavs and Celts clashed in the Finals. Well, Williams has all the reason to be upset, but slamming JT won’t help him. That’s for sure.

This fan found another reason for the fury, as they wrote, “Tatum must be ignoring bro’s texts.” That definitely wasn’t the real reason but this fan really got creative. Nevertheless, Tatum wasn’t injured in the play. That’s the positive takeaway for the fans!
