Is Jayson Tatum's cold shoulder a sign of deeper issues with Grant Williams?

“I thought JT and Grant was friends. I guess not.” Jaylen Brown questioned Jayson Tatum and Grant Williams’ relationship after the Hornets star hard-fouled the Olympian toward the end of last night’s game. As expected, the former Celt was ejected right after his controversial act. And while the hooper claimed that the foul was unintentional, it looks like there might still be some bad blood from JT’s end, as he refused to address the situation while the Celtics players gave Williams a telltale sign after tonight’s rematch.

After yesterday’s encounter with JT, Williams claimed, “I’ll talk to him tonight or tomorrow.” And latest reports suggest that the two did talk after the game and Grant was even apologetic for his actions. Although Tatum accepted the apology, he was apparently still annoyed. This became even more evident when Tatum left the court immediately after tonight’s game without dapping anyone up.

Meanwhile, the Hornet stood center court but had very limited interactions with his former teammates. And it looked like the Celtics stars were giving him the cold shoulder, as most of them only shook his hand without indulging in any conversation whatsoever. The Boston side had let their game do the talking rather, with JT topping the scoring list with 29 points in the absence of Jaylen Brown and four other players reaching double-digits, including a promising 22-point haul from Payton Pritchard off the bench.

Even in the postgame interview, Jayson Tatum chose to stay tight-lipped about the whole situation. When asked about the incident, he said, “I don’t really want to talk about it. Got ready for the game today. We came to Charlotte did what we’re supposed to do.”

Yes, the Celtics’ talisman refused to address his emotions about the foul or his relationship with Grant Williams. Instead, his primary focus was to finish this road trip with a win, “We go into Atlanta try to get another win before we go home.” So, it looks like the latter’s apology was not enough to win over his former teammate’s trust again.

Have an interesting take?

While Jayson Tatum chooses to stay silent on the matter, Grant Williams publicly defended his Flagrant 2 foul-worthy act after yesterday’s game, “I was trying to make a play on the ball. I didn’t reach across his body.” Yes, he claims it was his momentum that led to the ‘non-basketball play’ collision with his former teammate and he had controversially no malicious intent behind it.

Moreover, the Hornet reassured the community that his relationship with Tatum remains intact, “JT is one of my closest friends in the league. There is no intention to try to harm him in any way.” Obviously, they wore the same uniform for four years and have shared some amazing career moments together, including a trip to the NBA Finals. However, with the way the Boston Celtics and JT responded tonight, Williams might have tarnished his relationship with his former teammates. What are your thoughts?
