"Is Mitchell Robinson hinting at a trade, or is he just playing mind games with Knicks fans?"

As Mitchell Robinson’s future in the NY Knicks dangles on a thin thread, the 7-foot center dropped a cryptic note. The 26-year-old had an unfortunate season last year, dealing with an ankle injury. After missing out on 50 games in the regular season, he again re-aggravated it in the post-season. This brief absence was enough for the backup center, Isaiah Hartenstein, to make a mark on the team. Now that the team is preparing for the next season, trade rumors loom over Robinson amid Hartenstein’s rise.

The German center wouldn’t have wished for a better opportunity. Following a successful season, covering up for Robinson’s absence, Hartenstein entered the free agency. Moreover, he made himself eligible for an early Bird rights contract worth $72.5 million. This leaves the Knicks with no option other than trading out one of their big men. Amid this situation, Mitchell Robinson dropped a message, addressing the narrative surrounding his injuries.

The Knicks center took to his Snapchat stories and dropped the screenshot of his career stats, along with a caption. The caption read, “Idk why I looked this up but…for people to say I’m always ‘injured’ only had 2 years of my career where I didn’t play more than half the season the other 4 seasons I played more than half the year.” Importantly, he ended the caption with an open-ended statement that read, “But it’s okay I got something cooking up.”

While there isn’t even the slightest idea about Robinson’s impending plan, the star himself spoke about the trade rumors in a recent podcast. Still alongside his teammates, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart in Roommates Show, he said, “It [doesn’t] really affect me at all… I really haven’t been paying attention to it… I’m just in my own world, still doing what I do.” However, when Mitchell defended the injury accusation, the fans certainly didn’t receive it well.

Fans “trash” Mitchell Robinson as he defends his injury accusation

To be on the fair side, Robinson had an unfortunate injury in the post-season. After recovering from the ankle injury, Joel Embiid had an ugly fall on his legs, re-aggravating his injury during the playoffs. Many argued that the Sixers‘ big man intentionally fell on the Knicks’ center. Nevertheless, it again left him out of the mix, leaving the team short-handed on the big stage.

However, the fans didn’t show any mercy as one of the fans, straight up, called his defense “trash”. While Mitchell focused on his ability to play longer than half a season, fans had a valid argument. A fan wrote, “Just because he played over half a season doesn’t mean anything… they pay him to play 82 games not to just play over 40.”

This fan didn’t mince their words when it came down to calling out the big man. They wrote, “I mean objectively when you average around 50-51 games a season the last 5 years, ppl are gonna question your durability… It is what it is.” However, some fans even sided with the big man, saying, “Leave Mitch alone. Dude is pure.” Notably, a fan put his feelings aside but still called out the center, saying, “I love bro but saying you play more than half a season isn’t a flex.”

The comments section is proof that Mitchell Robinson has gone completely wrong with his defense. Will this blunder force the trade? Let us know in the comments.
