A struggling Spurs stopped the Golden State Warriors in their tracks tonight, as they finished with a 126-113 victory! The first quarter saw a back-and-forth between teams without their franchise players. It also featured nine lead changes. But San Antonio held the wheel steady as they navigated through a Stephen Curry-less Warriors. Despite it all, Jonathan Kuminga doesn’t believe in giving out excuses.

Owning up for the loss tonight, Jonathan Kuminga says that the best players surrounded him, and while Steph’s presence would certainly change the game, his absence doesn’t give them an excuse. “Just us missing him doesn’t mean we have to go out there and lose”. The tweet further said, “JK isn’t using Steph’s absence as an excuse tonight”

Stephen Curry had rolled his ankle in the team’s loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. A drive to the basket in the late fourth quarter resulted in the ankle injury and the next thing we know, the 4x champion was limping off to the locker room. The MRI result did not reveal any structural damage as such. Curry is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Tuesday, which means that he won’t be available for the San Antonio rematch on Monday.

The Dubs are 0-4 this season without Steph while the all-time record stands at 81-146. But the GSW of late has showed somewhat of a consistency. Kerr’s got his starters as well as a second unit who are ready to step up. With Chris Paul starting until Curry gets back, Klay Thompson will once again be in sole control of the bench unit. Hopefully, they can get back the victory that evaded them tonight next week.

The Spurs get the upper hand of the Warriors in San Francisco

San Antonio was without their star player, Victor Wembanyama, as well as guard, Devin Vassell. Tonight was Wemby’s second missed game after the French rookie also rolled his ankle against the Rockets on Tuesday. Vassell, though, has been dealing with a left hip contusion. Even so, the Warriors should have been able to overpower the last-seeded West team easily.

Keldon Johnson took the lead well-supported by Jeremy Sochan and Malaki Branham. Johnson had a double-double for the team with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Sochan and Branham both had 20 points apiece while Tre Jones finished with a game-high 11 assists. Although the Dubs tried for a third quarter surge, the Spurs held on tight and continued with their steady dominance, not losing sight of the goal.
