The Golden State Warriors were pretty inactive this trade deadline, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. As per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Dubs tried to bring LeBron James to the Bay Area to pair him with his frenemy Stephen Curry. However, all of their efforts were swatted away, as both the Lakers front office and James were not interested in parting ways. While the trade might not come to fruition this season, there are chances that GSW’s pursuit of seeing James in a Warriors jersey will not end here.
ESPN Story with @RamonaShelburne: Over a 24-hour window prior to trade deadline that included owner to owner conversations, the Warriors made an unsuccessful bid to convince the Lakers and LeBron James to consider a trade to pair him with Stephen Curry. https://t.co/L14os5gTGp

It is widely known that James has a 2024/25 player option worth $51.4 million, which means the Warriors could try recruiting him once again in the summer when he hits free agency. Moreover, ESPN reported that owner Jeanie Buss wants her players to be content with the franchise. Therefore, the Lakers would not hesitate to orchestrate a trade if that’s what James would have asked for.
Since all their efforts were rebuffed, the Warriors had no opportunity to present their trade package, but considering they wanted to pair him with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green was the one who was actively recruiting him, it is not one of those two. Among the permutations they could have explored was compiling an offer involving Chris Paul, Jonathan Kuminga, and/or Andrew Wiggins, since they were reportedly not interested in breaking their core three.
However, another way for the Warriors to lure in James could be to help turn his NBA dream into a reality. Papa James has long stated his desire to share the main stage with Bronny before he hangs his boots. Therefore, what better way to get elder James’ attention than by drafting his son when he enters the 2024 NBA Draft? However, drafting Bronny won’t be easy either, since many teams will be vying to win the elder James sweepstakes.

Philadelphia 76ers in the mix for LeBron James sweepstakes
The GSW weren’t the only ones to jump the gun after seeing James post a cryptic hourglass emoji following their loss against the Atlanta Hawks. As per ESPN, Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey had also thrown his hat in the ring to acquire the 4-time NBA champion. But to no avail. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka swiftly shut down all advances.
And hilariously, he even responded by inquiring about the availability of reigning MVP Joel Embiid. That was enough to end the brief conversation, sources told Woj and Ramona Shelburne.
