The Golden State Warriors tried to salvage their off-season break by making some changes to their roster after a failed pursuit of the majority of star names available in free agency. Sure, Klay Thompson’s exit left a huge void, but they tried to balance it with Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton. Now, as the new season is approaching, the franchise is focused on making final-minute changes. There have been speculations that to make the necessary adjustments, they would be willing to part ways with Moses Moody.
Keith Smith broke the news on X. He stated, “A whole bunch of teams should be talking to the Warriors about Moses Moody. There doesn’t seem to be an extension coming there.” Moody entered the NBA as the Warriors’ 14th draft pick in 2021, and since then, spent the majority of time as a bench option. The 22-year-old was also spotted on the franchise’s G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. Last season, he appeared 66 times but not even for 18 minutes per game, during which he contributed 8.1 points and 3 rebounds per game. However, with Klay’s departure, this issue could’ve been solved, but the Warriors had other plans. They acquired the former Sixers guard, De’Anthony Melton, for $12 million, who would be another contender for that spot.
As of now, there has been no update about Moody’s contract extension. So, will this be the end of the Moody’s run with the Warriors? Nothing can be confirmed yet, as the franchise hasn’t broken its silence on the matter yet which led to such anticipations. Letting go of Moody means CEO Joe Lacob would be saving nearly $13 million in cap space. Along with Melton’s $12 million, the franchise could potentially open up a $25 million space if they act on trading. Smith further added to his post, “The Warriors have other guys they are prioritizing at Moody’s positions. But he can play and he should be getting minutes somewhere.”

The news came out at a time when the Warriors were linked to Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler. Does this mean the franchise would be able to add the veteran to their comparatively lightweight squad?
Warriors interest in Jimmy Butler revealed
The Warriors can send shock waves through the league by putting Jimmy Butler on the team with Stephen Curry. That would certainly be threatening. This would also mean that the 4-time champion wouldn’t have to bear the team’s burden alone. With Jimmy Buckets in the team, Curry would get much more space to flaunt his 3-pointers. However, before jumping to the conclusion, the Heat have to agree to the terms.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Joe Lacob's $25M strategy worth sacrificing young talent like Moses Moody for a shot at Jimmy Butler?
Have an interesting take?
Butler shared his desire to get a maximum $113 million contact from the franchise, but the Heat seem reluctant to offer it. Moreover, their president Pat Riley earlier revealed, “We have to look at making that kind of commitment and when do we do it. We don’t have to do it until 2025, actually. But we’ll see. We haven’t made a decision on it, and we haven’t really in earnest discussed it.” Giving the 34-year-old such a massive deal appears risky for the franchise, especially after he missed a chunk of games last season due to injury. So it could be his right time to suit up in the Warriors jersey.
With the Nets rumors also swirling around, the Warriors could be drawn into a battle with the franchise. Nevertheless, landing Butler could provide the Warriors with the edge to make the most of the “Stephen Curry window” before the franchise moves into rebuild mode in a few seasons.
