After Klay Thompson‘s exit, the Warriors were able to answer fewer questions than what were raised, with the biggest one being about his replacement. The franchise traded in Buddy Hield to solve that, but his position in the Warriors‘ Rubik’s cube is far from assuring. Other gaps have also popped up about the team’s size and roster management, things Joe Lacob will have to deal with within a month. But still, Lacob is overlooking some of the available assets, which could jeopardize the season if reinforcement doesn’t arrive.
All these questions were answered individually, and the Warriors fans don’t have much to celebrate. Discussing the size issue in the team, NBC Sports’ Dalton Johnson highlighted how the starting C for the Warriors is only 6’6″ compared to the 7-footers of the opponents. While the team has won multiple Championships with Draymond Green playing that position, his age and volatile nature can leave a major gap. How to plug that? There weren’t many options, but Dalton Johnson drew attention to their draft pick, Quinten Post. The 7-footer doesn’t even have a roster spot at the moment and that might well be the case when the season starts.
The other options to solve their size issues are Andrew Wiggins (6’7″), Jonathan Kuminga (6’8″) Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Kevon Looney (both 6’9″). The rotations in this group led to the Warriors registering as the team with the sixth-lowest blocks per game last season. That’s a major concern for the Dubs to resolve, and the current market doesn’t have a piece left to patch the issue momentarily.

The franchise’s Lauri Markkanen chase ended in a failure and a more aggressive push for him would’ve done the trick. Not only Quinten, the second-round draft pick, Lacob is also monitoring Golden State’s Summer League hero, Daeqwon Plowden, who already has a measure of confidence, unlike Post.
Summer hero in tough fight to keep roster spot ahead of training camp
The Warriors will start their pre-season camp in Hawaii in October. Before that, the roster spots need to be filled for the players to be eligible for participation. The franchise can offer 3 two-way deals, but the problem is that all three of those are signed at the moment. Plowden, who impressed during the Summer League, is already tied up to a two-way deal. He scored 19 points against the Suns, 26 points against the Heat before leaving the court with a knee problem, and scored 14 against the Lakers.

The other two slots are occupied by Pat Spencer and Reece Beekman. Things could still change as players will be competing for the roster spots and currently, the Warriors don’t have enough room for the 15th spot. Hence, someone will have to go out for one to come in. That can only be decided within this month as the time for Steph Curry‘s Bay Area stay is getting shorter with every passing day.
