Unfollowing the Warriors’ Instagram account and removing many of his team-related posts, Klay Thompson has left the fans in utter disbelief. Still not having agreed upon a contract extension with the team, this move could be him hinting at possibly becoming a free agent. Naturally, outraged GSW fans were concerned about losing their beloved star and flooded the internet with their theories. Amid the speculations, Klay dropped another bombshell while reliving a few memories, sparking serious rumors about a rival franchise.

Amid uncertainty around his contract situation and future with the Warriors, Klay shared a 9-year-old sunset-portrayed picture of himself playing basketball on a beachside court on his Instagram story, captioned, “I miss this place so much,” with a crying emoji. While the actual location in the image is unknown, it is possible that the picture was taken at Capo Beach in California.

Born and raised in LA, Klay has always been vocal about his love for the city. Moreover, the shooting guard also purchased a $2.2 million ocean-view house at Dana Point nine years ago and constantly used to hoop at the basketball court in Capo Beach. “Hoopin and bon-firing at capo beach just like the good old days.” Klay tweeted back in 2014.

So, it is highly likely that the image he shared today was the same court in LA. Unfortunately, the said basketball court with palm trees on its side was destroyed by a storm back in 2018, taking away one of Klay’s favorite hometown locations from him. And he likely shared the image today reminiscing about the good old days. But that also left many wondering if this sudden nostalgia could be a sign that Klay might be thinking of playing for his hometown team.

Bay Area’s faithful outraged by Klay Thompson’s questionable move

It is unlikely to be a coincidence that Klay shared an image of his hometown just days after he seemed to cut all social media ties with the Warriors. And his questionable online activity seems to have left a sour taste in some Bay Area faithful’s mouths. Addressing Klay’s move, radio personality Dan Devone called out the Warriors star for his insecurity, “There’s always been some kind of this overt, sense of insecurity from [Klay], I just think this is another OBVIOUS example of that…but if you’re the Warriors you just hope this doesn’t get ugly.”

From what fans have seen from Klay on the court, he tends to get a bit insecure when things do not go in his favor. And that trait was on display when Klay showed his four fingers to Dillon Brooks during a recent game. Yes, the viral incident occurred last year when after trash talking each other the entire game, the Warriors found themselves on the losing end against a young Memphis squad. And a frustrated Klay Thompson, while sitting on the bench, taunted Dillon Brooks and Co. by counting his four championships on his fingers, which many believed was him trying to take focus away from the Warriors’ struggles last season. With that, his recent social media gesture could also be an insecure move (after seemingly not agreeing on a contract deal with the Warriors) that could even lead to some bad blood between him and the franchise as they are likely to part ways. Meanwhile, radio host Dan Dibley claimed that Klay might not be happy with his current situation in Golden State.

“We’re 18 days away from free agency & this is happening now, which tells me the sides are at a point where they’re unable to [agree on a deal]. Klay’s not happy about it, so he goes to IG.” Dibley said. If Klay doesn’t reach an agreement with the Warriors, LA could be a possible destination for him, as there have also been rumors about that move in the past. And Klay gave even more fuel to these rumors as he recently also followed Lakers guard Austin Reaves on social media. Moreover, Klay Thompson would love to play in the same team his father represented during his time as a player, and it would bring him closer to the city he grew up in.
