The Milwaukee Bucks have been dealing with injuries for the past two years. However, these injuries did not affect them during the regular season. In fact, their stars sustained injuries right around playoff time. Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the last two postseasons due to injuries. The Bucks welcomed Damian Lillard in the hopes of contending for the title. While they did make the case for making it out of the East, this time, it wasn’t only Giannis who was unavailable during the playoffs.
Now, there have been multiple rumors surrounding Antetokounmpo’s trade. Are these rumors at all true? Well, even if they aren’t, Giannis may just be open to exploring his options. He signed a three-year, $175 million veteran extension last year that sees him at Milwaukee till 2027. The 2027-28 season will witness the player option. Nevertheless, multiple teams are looking to add Giannis. But the Warriors have been the primary front runners to land Giannis on their roster, and they still are.
NBA insider, Sam Amick recently highlighted the possibilities around the ‘Greek Freak’ making his way to the Bay. “We know that Joe Lacob has had dreams of Giannis coming the Warriors’ way for a very long time. Again, unlikely, but Khris Middleton is going to be a free agent next summer. Has been hurt so much. Damian Lillard, is he going to have a bounceback year? … I think Giannis is kind of worth monitoring and it’s guys like that, you know…”, Amick said in the ‘95.7 The Game’ show.

Now surprisingly, the Dallas Mavericks are the major front runners to acquire Giannis next year. But then again, that would only be a possibility if the Bucks have a playoff record similar to what they had this year. However, the Warriors need not worry. The Dubs are already one of the top teams that is looking to acquire Jimmy Butler if he decides to leave Miami. So much so, that the Dubs are the second favorite team to land Butler as his contract includes a player option for the 2025-26 season. According to Bovada, the Dubs are right behind the Nets on the list of teams that Butler might play for next year.
But who would the Warriors opt for if they had the chance?
Giannis Antetokounmpo might be a more suitable candidate for the Dubs
There is no doubt that Jimmy Butler is one of the most elite scorers in the league, especially during the playoffs. However, the ‘Greek Freak’ has shown his desire to play alongside Stephen Curry in the past. Giannis even mentioned Steph as the best player in the world. “In my opinion, the way I view it, the winner is the best. The guy who wins is the best … I believe that the best player in the world is Steph Curry until the next player.”
Moreover, Curry and Giannis would fit just well. A few years ago, Steph and KD formed one of the most lethal duos in league history. We might see something similar if Giannis lands in the Bay. Of course, the financial situation will be all over the place considering Antetokounmpo’s contract.
