With the trio of Steph, Klay, and Draymond getting older, the Warriors are desperately looking for young and talented players to carry their dynasty forward. However, having only one pick in this year’s draft, No. 52, the Warriors front office will have to be very careful about who they bring into the team. But those issues might have been resolved as the latest rumors suggest they might have found the next Klay Thompson in Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman’s 23-year-old son, DJ Rodman!

Playing for 5 years at the collegiate level, four at Washington State and one at USC, DJ Rodman is ready to follow in his legendary father’s footsteps and begin his pro basketball career. Entering his name in the upcoming draft, DJ was invited to a 6-player pre-draft workout with GSW on Thursday, where he attracted a lot of eyeballs. “It went great, kind of kicked my butt a little bit,” DJ reflected on his tiring day at the Warriors facility.

Being only one inch shorter than his father, who was arguably the greatest defender in league history, many would expect that DJ would come in to replace Draymond Green at the Forward position. However, in reality, DJ’s skillset and expertise lie in an area that his father struggled in.

While Dennis hit only 82 threes in his entire NBA career, DJ surpassed his father’s number in only his last two years in college. Shooting 37.2 percent from the 3-point line in his final two college seasons, while averaging 9 points and over 5 rebounds, DJ has shown glimpses of a young Klay Thompson during his time in college. Yes, he might not become as great a shooter as Klay right away. But the important thing is DJ seems like he is constantly improving and working on his game, “I like to watch myself because now I actually jump on my jump shot. I actually look like a basketball player when I shoot the ball.”

DJ Rodman was passed on the most important trait from his father

While DJ spent most of his time at USC and Washington State as a spot-up shooter, there is a lot more he can produce on the court. Being the son of Dennis Rodman, it comes as no surprise that DJ also prides on his defense and claims that he can guard any position from one to five when needed. And that is an area that will always keep DJ in demand, even on the nights his shots aren’t falling.

“It’s true. It’s in my blood. But other than that, I feel like it’s something I can control on a night-to-night basis. You can’t control if you’re going to make shots. You can control your effort level on the defensive end,” DJ said.

Before Klay Thompson suffered career-altering injuries, he used to be one of the top two-way shooting guards in the league. While everyone was aware of his shooting ability, his defensive prowess was rather underrated. DJ, being the same height as Klay and with a great shooting touch just like him, could be the perfect person to take over Klay’s role now that he is no longer in his prime.

While DJ might not yet be as great a player as his father was, there is a lot of potential for growth in the young star. And the Warriors could benefit from using their only draft pick on him. Do you agree?
