“Just pi**ed off, you’re trying to figure it out. Everybody in the locker room is kind of searching a little bit, trying to understand what’s going wrong”. Stephen Curry was pretty candid about his emotions in the aftermath of the Warriors’ recent loss against the Miami Heat. The Bay Area franchise has now lost 6 of their last 8 games, reducing their win record to 18-18. Currently occupying the 10 seed, Stephen Curry and Co could very well miss the playoffs for a second consecutive row if their situation does not improve. However, despite his team’s abysmal record, Stephen Curry has shown that he is not one to lose confidence so easily.
During the post-game presser, the NBA All-Time Three-Point Leader was reminded how his team has gone down from a 12-3 to an 18-18 record. A reporter wanted to know how the star player and his squad can stay confident that they will make the playoffs this time around. In response, Curry had a six-worded statement to give out: “Because there’s more games to play”. At the end of the day, the future of the Golden State Warriors was going to be determined by the squad’s confidence amidst adversity.
“So, you going (to) put that Jersey on whatever day, Thursday, and walk out of the locker room with the confidence we can win that game,” said Curry. “And we’re professional basketball players. It’s our job. That’s what we’re going to do”.

The last 3 games have seen Stephen Curry amp up his performance. The recent Warriors-Heat matchup saw him putting out his highest score amongst those games as he made 31 points. However, the star player also faltered on the shooting front, as he made 11-22 (50%) field goals, 8-17 (47.1%) three-pointers, but 1-1 (100%) free throws. The field goal percentage of the entire team stood at 40.8%, while the three-pointer percentage was at 28%!
There is no denying that confidence and good gameplay go hand-in-hand for the NBA. During his post-game presser, Kerr highlighted that missed shots are not the main issue. It is rather the fact that they affect defense and morale. For Curry, the lack of confidence in the squad is because several players are new to the team. He even admitted to comparing the Warriors’ current performance and the ones during the 2021 and 2024 seasons. Curry did so by stating “The deeper you get into it, you hate having kind of Deja Vu so you’re trying to not allow your mind to go there”.

Therefore, having reached such a low point, it is difficult to know whether the situation will improve for the Warriors in the long run. Despite Stephen Curry’s display of confidence, he must be going through an emotional struggle. The same has become apparent to some of the fans, and even the team’s head coach.

During the Heat-Warriors game, a viral clip started making the rounds of social media. What’s your perspective on:
Can Stephen Curry's confidence alone turn the Warriors' season around, or is it too late?
Have an interesting take?
“He’s continued to be brilliant night after night. But, you know, at his core, he’s a winner, he’s a champion, he wants to compete at the highest level. We just saw it a few months ago in Paris. The best of the best, and you know, he takes over the fourth quarter when everything’s on the line,” said Kerr. “That’s who he is, that’s what he lives for. And so, he is really struggling with the emotion of, you know, not being competitive right now. He probably hasn’t had to deal with this since his, I don’t know, his first couple (of) years in the league. So, he’s definitely struggling with it.”
The Golden State Warriors are next set to go up against the Detroit Pistons. Though they also possess an 18-18 record, the Warriors have a 7-3 record against the Eastern Conference team. Therefore, a win there can help get back that confidence which Stephen Curry and co need.
