The Warriors’ lack of size in the middle continues to be an issue. Draymond Green has been stepping up as a small-ball five this season. But Green won’t be able to back up Stephen Curry and Co. for another week owing to a left calf strain. And here’s the thing: the Warriors’ front office is dead-set on finding a big man who can shoot and fit seamlessly into Steve Kerr’s system. They’ve been on the hunt for someone who can bring that right mix of size and skill. It’s a big need, no pun intended.
But does Steph approve?
Two Western Conference executives told Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN that Golden State is saving its top trade assets for the offseason, hoping to pull off a significant move when the time is right. So, while we might see some action before the deadline, don’t hold your breath for anything major right now. Looks like the Warriors are biding their time for a bigger splash later on. And with Curry advising the front office not to trade assets that deplete the future, it seems like the move will be later rather than this trade window.

Even so, the Warriors are eyeing players like Nikola Vučević. The Bulls‘ big man could provide the scoring punch Curry desperately needs. Golden State hopes to land him by using expiring contracts, as Vucevic is currently making $20 million this season. Along with Vucevic, the Dubs are also keeping an eye on Kelly Olynyk, Jonas Valanciunas, and Robert Williams III all in the mix, according to Jake Fischer.
The Warriors need more size in their rotation, and adding a big could be just what they need to level up. Olynyk’s ball-handling and passing could really gel with Golden State’s offense, especially with their emphasis on perimeter play. On the flip side, Robert Williams would offer a different kind of spark—his rim protection and high-flying play would bring a new dimension to the Warriors’ defense. Either way, it’s clear the Warriors need help in the frontcourt and bringing in a player like one of these guys could be a huge game-changer for them.
Without a big man, the Warriors were promptly exploited by the Celtics, and Curry had to make a shocking confession.
Stephen Curry points out 3 key reasons for Warriors’ struggles
On Monday, they were handed their most lopsided loss in years, getting crushed by the Celtics 125-85. The Warriors are now 21-21, sitting in 11th place in the West, just outside of the play-in tournament.
Kristaps Porziņģis was on fire from the jump, hitting two threes and putting up eight points in the first quarter alone. That shooting stretched the defense, opening up the floor for his teammates. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown capitalized, driving to the basket with fewer defenders in the paint. And whenever the Warriors threw smaller defenders at Porzingis, he made them pay for it, showing off his size and skill.
After the game, Stephen Curry didn’t hold back in explaining the team’s struggles. “A big part of our season has been when we can’t score, we lose spirit, we lose life, we lose competitiveness,” Curry said. “We can get away with it against some teams, against the defending champs, it’s not a good formula for success.”

You could feel Curry’s frustration after the brutal defeat. Golden State shot just 34.8% from the field and a pitiful 26.4% from beyond the arc. The Celtics dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 43-24.
The Warriors still have plenty of time to turn things around, and let’s be real—no one can count them out with Curry leading the charge. But if they’re going to bounce back, they’ll need to find a way to stay competitive, even when the shots aren’t falling.
