The Golden State Warriors came into the fresh season with a lot of surprises. Firstly, the team had the core shaken up with Klay Thompson making his way out. Despite that, the team produced a dominant 12-3 run with a new-look side. However, now they have fallen into a slump. While the fans expect the team to bounce back with their latest blockbuster trade, the team has recorded another promising feat off the court. In fact, it made noise across different sporting leagues. Importantly, the Warriors are only a billion dollars short of becoming the most valuable team.

The Warriors under Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry produced an unreal run since they collaborated in 2014, reaching six finals and winning four rings. This effort not only increased the Dubs’ fan base but also the monetary valuation of the franchise. Before Steve Kerr donned the Warriors coaching hat, the team stood in the 8th spot among the other NBA teams, valued at $555 million.

Fast forward to 2024, the Bay Area side stands tall in the number 1 spot valued at $9.14 billion. Most importantly, it became the second most valuable sports team in the world behind the NFL team, Dallas Cowboys, which is valued at $10.3 billion, as per Sportico. The team behind the Warriors is the New York Knicks, which is valued at $8.3 billion. So, the Dubs are less than a billion dollars short to take over the crown.

It might seem like an unreasonable desire to aim for the crown. But looking at the growth rate of the Warriors, Stephen Curry & Co. are certainly on track to achieve that feat. The NBA’s average team valuation was at $2.37 billion in 2020 and it rose up to $4.6 billion. It certainly doubled in four years. So, it’s safe to say that the Warriors aren’t far from reaching the crown.

How did the Warriors become the most valuable side in the NBA?

It’s important to note that the Warriors became the most valuable side in the league in 2022, surpassing the Knicks and Lakers. Well, we can’t think of any reason apart from the team’s brilliant run in the late 2010s. The team produced a 73-9 record in the 2015-16 season, breaking the Chicago Bulls’ record to become the team with the most successful regular season.

The team roped in one of the most wanted superstars, Kevin Durant, right after that season and went on to win two back-to-back titles. These kinds of stuff definitely boost the valuation of the side. Most importantly, even after the drastic fall after the 2019 Finals, the team had one more run left in it. The team went on to win the 2022 Finals after failing badly in the previous two seasons. It was the same year the team became the most valuable side in the team.
