Did Kevin Durant's move to Golden State ruin his legacy despite those two rings?

Kevin Durant “weakened another team and he’s gonna kind of gravy train on a terrific Warriors team.” NBA legend Charles Barley said these about about Kevin Durant in 2016. He was criticizing KD’s move from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Golden State Warriors. Barkley implied that KD joined the Warriors only because they were a great team and he wanted more personal laurels. This criticism of KD has been echoed by several others, including ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith. However, things are not so simple as they seem.

The blame should fall on the Warriors. Former Warriors player Gilbert Arenas has a different version of events and has defended Durant’s move. Leaving the OKC the same year when they put up a 3-1 fight with the Golden State Warriors in the WC Finals was not well received by fans. But the blame should not fall on KD, according to Arenas.

Arenas said on Gil’s Arena that the blame should fall on the Warriors. He noted that despite the “73 and 9, they were supposed to be better than Michael Jordan’s team. That was the best team in history.” The Warriors beat the 1995–96 Chicago Bulls’ record for the best regular season in NBA history. They attained it after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 125–104 on April 13, ending with a record of 73–9.

Yet they lost NBA Finals to the Cavaliers led by LeBron James who were down by 3-1 at a juncture. “The King beats them. The King dethrones considerably the best team in history. We’re making fun of the Golden State Warriors. …Y’all are weak for going after the number two or one[KD] player in the game to go back and beat the Cavs.” . Gilbert said it was not KD who wanted the Warrior but the other way around. The Dubs needed more accolades and as a result, they got Durant.

According to Arenas, it was the Golden State Warriors that were the “weakest” for recruiting Kevin Durant after the defeat to LeBron James and Co.

Despite leading the Warriors to two championships, Kevin Durant remains the villain!

Gilbert Arenas scratched the Warriors the wrong way this time. The whole league was under the delusion that Kevin Durant was wrong here. “Your guns are not big enough to go out and beat LeBron James that you got to go out and get a bazooka to just say it’s over with you.”

While the narratives are there that Draymond Green called Durant or executive Jerry West called. However, what matters is that the Dubs approached Durant first. They wanted a championship so bad after the 2015 win that they called another asset or future Hall of Famer for their ambitions. “Why do y’all[GSW] have immunity for making that call,” Gil questioned the approach of Warriors’ right to make the call.

They were proud enough to then telecast Kevin Durant as the seeker. So that might be enough to prove how Golden State Warriors shadowed the truth with their narrative. And that might be the reason Kevin Durant is still out of the GOAT debate because he’s still part of people’s hate. What do you all think about KD, especially after his Olympics feat?
