NBA All-Star and 2X NBA All-Defensive Team Andre Iguodala was one of the best lockdown defenders in the league, with an immaculate game IQ. Over his long and illustrious 19-year career in the NBA, Iguodala played a major role in bringing four Championships for the Warriors. He retired this year just before the season commenced.

His love for the game transcended the court, and despite his retirement, he would go on to launch a podcast with his longtime friend and fellow NBA star Evan Turner. In a recent episode of the Point Forward podcast, Iguodala shares a funny story about a coach of his and his hilarious remarks that he still remembers to this day.

Although he doesn’t take any names, Iguodala does mention that this coach in question was from Chicago. As the story goes, they were sitting on the bench, and “some interesting calls were being made on the court” by the referee. The coach couldn’t help but quip lightheartedly about the referee’s calls. He turned to him and said, “Goddamn! Did I did I sleep with one of your girls? Cuz every time I see you I get a bad whistle.”

Iguodala recalls how this amusing remark caught him off guard but he enjoyed it. He goes on to say that over the years, he has seen very interesting relationships between the referees and the players. However for Iguodala, “the refs should never be seen.” He asserts that the duty of the referees is to uphold and respect the rules and regulations of the game without being an interference or distraction to the game.
