Because of years of consistent failure, the Sacramento Kings had become the league’s laughingstock. After missing the playoffs for 16 straight seasons, it was hard for anyone to treat them as legitimate competition. But in just two years, they have managed to turn it around. A lot of their success has to be credited to their head coach, Mike Brown, who took that responsibility in 2022. However, with Brown looking for a new deal after the two successful seasons, the Kings have reportedly not met his expectations yet, leading to many turning on GM mode.
As per NBA Insider Shams Charania, the Kings have put forth a competitive 3-year offer of $21 million through 2026-27. While the deal also includes a $27 million bonus, there has been no agreement between both parties. That is because Brown is believed to be seeking $10 million annually, leaving the current offer nine million short.
And Brown might be right in expecting so. Before he arrived in Sac, the Kings had only won thirty games the previous season. But the year Brown joined, the Kings took a massive leap and finished as the 3rd seed and won 48 games. Yes, they were not able to get past the Warriors in the first round, but Brown won the Coach of the Year trophy for his efforts. Even this season, he led the Kings to 46 wins. So, with the team heading in the right direction, Brown would deserve to be rewarded for sure.
