The revelation and tearing apart the NBA 2K ratings has become a tradition for the hoopers deep into the offseason. The NBA community leaves no chance to weigh down on the players. Often, the debate goes on about who’s put high on the charts and who is underrated. As the top 10 rankings of the players are out, Gilbert Arenas and his crew panel discussed new rankings. Jaylen Brown, who is holding the 15th overall ranking with 92 OVR, got the center of attention. This time, the panel was adamant about putting Jaylen Brown above Jayson Tatum in the rankings. However, the ex-Warriors player Arenas could not imagine the Celtics star on the same level as top-tier players.
Voicing his disagreement on the Gil’s Arena podcast, Gilbert said, “They’re not even in the same realm of basketball. …He is not the number one option on his team he sits in a corner.” Conclusively, Jaylen Brown is more of a shooter than a scorer who is just good on defense. However, Tatum is in a different league when it comes to his abilities. Despite being a small forward, he racked up 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists last season.
The next nail in Jaylen Brown’s coffin was Arenas targeting Celtics offense formation as he added, “They double Tatum, pass, pass, go through Jrue, go him and get him, and then he gets to go. That’s his game. He does not get doubled. He doesn’t demand the double, right? The double goes to Tatum.” Apparently, it does not lie in sync with the NBA Finals MVP and recipient of the Bill Russell Award receiver, Jaylen Brown’s reputation. Why so? Let’s dive deep into the conclusions that numbers don’t often lead to!

Why was Gilbert Arenas so aggressive about Jayson Tatum being in a different league than Jaylen Brown?
When it comes to numbers as mentioned above, Tatum is supreme to teammate Jaylen Brown. Then you might be wondering how Brown was the recipient of the coveted Finals MVP. Well, during the postseason, especially during the NBA semi-finals and Finals, the Celtics guard was more efficient. His field goal percentage was a staggering 44%. He also had a bigger defensive role play while guarding Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in the first three games of the NBA finals.
However, as Arenas pointed out, the play was focused on Jaylen Brown. Tatum and Jrue Holiday manipulated the defense to get the ball back to Brown. He just had to shoot the ball. Yet, doing all of it, Tatum managed to lead the team in stats as he averaged 22.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and 7.2 apg. And despite all of the support from his teammate, Jaylen Brown could only put up 20.8 ppg, 5.4 boards per game, and 5 apg.

That’s why Gilbert Arenas was so firm on his Jayson Tatum supremacy. The 27-year-old shooting guard is definitely an asset. However, maintaining the dominance on the multiple aspects of the game is what Jaylen Brown lacks. The Celtics star is more of a role player than an all-rounder. What do you all think about him?
