Klay Thompson is not having the best time right now. He averaged 21.9 points last season with 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists and was at his best in offense as well. While the Golden State Warriors, as such, had a disappointing season, the shooting guard did not.
This time around, however, things are declining quickly for Thompson. He is struggling to be at his peak performance again. The Warriors are being carried by Stephen Curry with no help from his teammates. Many fans and analysts have questioned and analyzed his performances and are trying to find the possible answer.

When talking on the Gil’s Arena podcast, the former Washington Wizards point guard had an explanation for Klay’s situation. When debating if he was “washed” or if this was just an early season slump, Arenas shared that this was just a slump. “You don’t get washed over three months… four months. You don’t go from averaging twenty-two, which probably was his best year offensively… to this. ?So what is the element that is causing this? “, he added.
Arenas further explained that Thompson was coming to the arena with the pressure that he needed to get a shot. He added, “‘My money’s on the line.’ This is what it looks like when a dude is in his contract year and is stressin to play very well.” Other speakers also agreed with Gil on this while pointing out that the pressure on him means that Thompson is not going to be making free throws to make it easy for himself. Rather, he is going to put himself in a spot to ensure that he consistently makes shots that will ensure points for his team and himself. The 33-year-old is currently in his final year of context with no sign of extension.

Klay Thompson signed his five-year, $189.9 million contract in 2019 after the NBA Finals. While he is eligible to sign an extension at any point this season, nothing has come to fruition. And without a deal, Thompson is looking towards free agency when the 2023-24 season ends. Warriors majority owner Joe Lacob chimed in on the situation saying, ?I mean, we?re not in control of this. There?s two sides to every negotiation. We want him back. He wants to be back.”

We?ve got to try to win another title and I really badly, really badly want to see Steph and our guys, Klay and Draymond, get another one”.
