One of the most shocking and also anticipated trades was the Bucks sending out Khris Middleton to the Wizards. More than a teammate, the star forward has developed a brotherly bond with the franchise superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Inevitably, the trade triggered an emotional reaction from both parties. And days after the trade, last night, the duo faced each other for the first time in different jerseys and the Greek Freak had an unusual reaction.
Ahead of last night’s game against the Washington Wizards, a video circulated on the internet, as Middleton returned to Wisconsin, but not a Buck. Speaking of the trade, the 33-year-old made an emotional confession. “Reminisce, think about all the ups and downs or just my time in Milwaukee in general… It’s sad that I’m not in that uniform anymore because I’ve accomplished so much on and off the court, but I still get to play basketball just for a different team.”
Well, it’s indeed a privilege to stick in the NBA for more than a decade. So Khris can pat his back. On the other hand, Giannis isn’t impressed with the ace shooter’s new look. While Middleton felt grateful for still putting on an NBA jersey, the Bucks forward fired friendly shots at him. “Happy to see him out there. He looks weird. Looks weird with that jersey on… He does not make that jersey look good,” said Antetokounmpo mischievously.

There isn’t much that Middleton could do with the comment. After representing a franchise for 12 long seasons, it will need more time to get used to witnessing him in a new color. At the same time, Giannis’ hilarious dig at his ex-teammate may look like a sensitive statement. But in reality, Giannis is more emotionally involved with a star. Let’s find out how.

Giannis and Khris: Brother for life
Firstly, both stars entered the Bucks‘ fold in the same season (2013-14). While Giannis was a rookie, Middleton had spent a year with the Pistons before landing in Milwaukee. Little did they know that the duo would feed off of each other and improve their game together. You know, Giannis went on to become a global superstar and also put on some muscles since his debut. Above all, the duo went on to win a championship on this journey.

Moreover, this ultimate brotherhood doesn’t just end on the court. The 7-foot big man took it off the court and made Khris part of his personal affair. On September 1, 2024, Giannis tied the knot to his long-time partner Mariah Riddlesprigger. Khris, who was at the wedding ceremony, wasn’t just present to wish his teammate but stood near him as the best man. This is enough to explain the brotherhood that this duo share.

As an immediate reaction to the trade, the big man said, “I’m going to miss Khris. Everybody on the team’s going to miss Khris. His leadership. For me, my brotherhood with Khris is the most important thing I’ve had within this team for a lot of years.”
Yes, it sums up everything we need to know. Hopefully, the duo’s roads cross once again!
