Is Giannis' bond with his brothers the secret to his success, or a potential Achilles' heel?

Well, Giannis Antetokounmpo is not the oldest among the five Antetokounbros. But he is certainly the most popular because of his on-court dominance and vibrant personality. However, despite the superstardom, The Greek Freak has always prioritized family over everything and supported his brothers every step of the way. As expected, he wants his fans to do the same. This became evident during his wholesome interaction with a young Bucks fan, soon after Giannis got into a heated altercation with Josh Giddey.

After two brutal losses, the Bucks finally won their first preseason game tonight, which was a home encounter against the Bulls. Star of the show? No surprises there, Giannis with a game-high 24 points along with 10 rebounds. However, there was a moment of tension in the first quarter when Giddey intentionally fouled Giannis during a shot attempt which led to the Bucks forward shoving the Aussie. As expected, Giannis even got penalized with a technical foul for his actions.

Despite that, he was in a visibly good mood after the win and decided to stay on the court a little longer to interact with some fans. That’s when a young kid wearing an Antetokounmpo jersey stepped up to the superstar as The Greek Freak gifted him his game-worn sneakers and asked, “Did you enjoy the game? Wanna take a picture?”

Amid the interaction, another younger fan approached Giannis and asked, “This your brother?” Upon realizing that the two kids were siblings, he told them to take one shoe each. But then, Giannis took off his jersey and presented it to the younger sibling while the older one kept the sneakers. “You have the shoes. You have the jersey.” Following the heartwarming gesture, the superstar also imbued some words of wisdom to the older brother, “Make sure you take care of your brother, Ok? Always protect him.”

Sure enough, having four brothers of his own, Giannis understands the importance of always looking out for one another and keeping the relationship intact. Moreover, he even passed on the advice to his millions of followers as he posted the video writing, “Always!” As it turns out, whenever any of his brothers faces an issue, it also affects Giannis’ well-being.

Have an interesting take?

Despite coming from a different nation, Giannis has always been close to his family members during his NBA career. That’s because two of his brothers also play in the league and Thanasis has been his teammate for five years. And while Thanasis does not get much playing time on the Bucks, he plays a key role in helping Giannis perform at a high level. During Draymond Green’s podcast, former Bucks star Jeff Teague revealed an incident during the 2021 playoffs when Thanasis’ poor health led to the 29-year-old struggling on the court.

“(Thanasis Antetokounmpo) had Covid. So, he couldn’t come to the plane. That’s why we were down 0-2. Giannis was messed up, like him & his brother. They got some different kind of connection. He can’t function (if he doesn’t see him).” Teague remarked. Obviously, he was referring to the Finals series against the Suns when the Bucks lost the first two games but later clinched the championship. But Giannis’ struggles as Teague remarked truly show how much his brothers mean to him. What are your thoughts?
