Giannis in Greece without Mariah—trouble in paradise or just a solo getaway?

The 7-foot-tall Greek Freak failed to escape loving fans’ radar! If not for everyone, at least Giannis Antetokounmpo deserved a holiday. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar sustained an unfortunate injury and missed out on the postseason. While he was able to join Team Greece, he took some beating with his national side in the Paris Olympics. With less than two months left for the next NBA season, Giannis, along with his brothers took a dip in the Greek waters. Notably, ‘Mrs. Antetokounmpo’ was absent.

The off-season is usually the time for  NBA stars to get back in the lab and start the next season with a bang. However, in the case of the Bucks forward, he has certainly been advised to stay off the court, especially by the team’s coach, Doc Rivers. Before heading into Rivers’ off-season concern for the big man, let’s find out more about the vacation.

On Friday, Giannis Antetokounmpo shared a few snaps from his trip to Mykonos, a popular Aegean island in Greece. In the pictures, the 29-year-old donned a floral print shirt and swimwear. Meanwhile, the superstar’s brothers, Thenasis, Kostas, and Alex sported black shirts.

While we could only get this much out of his IG post, there’s something more to his leisure trip. The global superstar attempted to have a low profile on this trip, but it’s almost impossible. Greek City Times reported that the Bucks superstar graciously received his persistent admirers with photos and autographs throughout his stay. Notably, the fans even approached the star as he took a stroll in the narrow streets during the pre-dawn hours.

Interestingly, Giannis’ fiancé Mariah Riddlesprigger, who recently got engaged to the superstar in April in a private event, was not seen in the post. Riddlesprigger announced her engagement on her IG stories with a picture of a wall decorated with the wording ‘Mrs. Antetokounmpo’ written on it.

Ideally, a coach would want his player to improve their game in the off-season. But, Doc Rivers has an important reason to keep Giannis off the court. However, the ‘Greek Freak’ doesn’t seem to take Rivers’ concern seriously, as he already played for Greece’s national side in the Olympics.

In conversation with Bill Simmons, Doc Rivers raised concerns about how hard Giannis trains at the gym. He added, “The other thing you love about him is one’s going to outwork him his conditioning level is scary good, to slow him down good, especially in the summer times.” The coach even wished that the Greek side wouldn’t make it past the group stage. Rivers added, “I swear, I was thinking, ‘Come on! two more losses and we should get out of here.”

Notably, Giannis missed out on the last two consecutive playoffs due to injuries. So, it’s important that the superstar keeps his cool during the summer and gets back on the court at his personal best. Basically, it’s not nothing but, the Greek-Nigerian baller should continue to have leisure in the summer.
