Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard’s Latest Photoshoot Reminds Bucks of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson, Leaving Fans Divided

There have been many iconic duos over the course of NBA history. Who can ever forget the Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen duos? Their time with the Chicago Bulls saw the team win six NBA championships and they became one of the most successful duos ever. We also have Earvin “Magic” Johnson/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Larry Bird/Kevin McHale. 

From the turn of the century, we’ve had Kobe Bryant/Shaq, Lebron James/Dwayne Wade, and of course, Stephen Curry/Klay Thompson. Now, it looks like we will have a new duo joining this list soon. 

The Damian-Giannis and Jabbar-Robertson duo

In the lead-up to the Bucks vs Lakers preseason game, the Bucks compared the Damian-Giannis pair to another iconic duo from their past, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. This drew mixed reactions from the fans. 

While some agreed that the two were poised to achieve great things, some did not agree with it. They felt like it was disrespectful to Oscar-Kareem. Here are a few reactions that were exciting for the pair-up.

Will they be as iconic?

In the 1971-72 season, the Lakers had the longest winning streak in all American sports leagues- 33 games in a row. They were en route to become the greatest teams of all time. But their face-off with the Bucks ended this streak. With excellent performances from Kareem and Robertson, the Lakers lost 120-104 in Milwaukee. Later in the season, this iconic duo led the Bucks to the NBA Championship with an easy 4-0 win against the Washington Wizards.

And exactly 50 years later, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the franchise to only their second NBA Championship in 2021. Will the Greek Freak and Dame bring home another title? Only time will tell.
