With an incredible performance last night, the Timberwolves were able to save themselves from the humiliation of getting swept by the Mavs. While most people credited Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns for the win because of their high-scoring performance, Draymond Green was seeing a game within the game and identified an unsung hero. Usually critical of Rudy Gobert, Dray surprisingly moved away from that stance and expressed his genuine admiration for the French big man. However, that led him into a dicey path, as he sang praises of a more polarizing figure in the league, official Scott Foster.

Addressing the Wolves’ victory on The Draymond Green Show, Green commended Rudy for being physical with the Mavs and not letting them get easy buckets. “Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert set the tone defensively.” Then, he went into a trajectory of last night’s game official Scott Foster not calling “ticky-tack” fouls and not disrupting the intensity of an elimination game.

Diving deeper into the officiating talks, Dray revealed how much he liked Scott because of how transparent and straightforward he is while doing the job, “Scott one of my favorites coz I know what I’m gonna get.” Backing his point, he called out other officials who portray one image when they meet Draymond Green before the game and suddenly switch sides after the whistle by giving out technical fouls when anything is said to them. “Why you fake like that?” he questioned. Because of that unpredictability, the Warriors vet rather prefers Foster who is always cordial, and how he also stays consistent in the way he officiates every game.

What changed Draymond Green’s mind about Rudy Gobert?

After spending several minutes diverging from his original topic and appreciating Scott Foster, Draymond got back on track and kept praising Gobert. But what led to Draymond having a change of heart? Throughout these playoffs, we have seen Draymond constantly criticizing Gobert, either on his podcast or on Inside the NBA. When Gobert got bullied by Nikola Jokic in the previous series just days after winning his fourth Defensive Player of the Year trophy, the Warriors star publicly slammed him on Live TV saying, “BBQ chicken is happening…I’m a truth-teller and right now the truth is, Rudy Gobert don’t stand a chance against Joker.”

But last night, Draymond saw something from Gobert he hadn’t seen in quite some time. Coming out with aggressiveness and a will to not get swept, Gobert took charge and led the best defensive team to victory. While his stat line only read 13 points and 10 rebounds, Green noticed the contribution the Big Man had without the ball, “Oh he setting the tone! I see it. I respect it.” Yes, it won’t take much time for him to change his stance again if Gobert doesn’t play well. But for now, DG recognized his impact in yesterday’s win and gave him his flowers.
