Is Bryce James the next big thing in basketball, or just another overhyped prospect?

It’s said that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Well, in LeBron James’ case, the apples have fallen closer than usual as both his sons, Bronny and Bryce, are turning out to be elite ball players. While Bronny is slowly starting to catch fire in the NBA Summer League, his younger brother is also turning a lot of heads with his performance at the ongoing Nike EYBL. And Bryce’s latest defensive highlight even caught Uncle Draymond’s attention as the Warriors superstar revealed the most impressive aspect about the teenager’s performance.

Playing in the fifth and final session of EYBL in Augusta, South Carolina, Bryce James looked more than ready to showcase his skills on the court. Sure enough, he got the highlight he wanted as Bryce met his opponent at the rim to block his two-handed dunk attempt with emphatic force. Moreover, he asserted his dominance further by staring down his opponent and even trash-talking him, somewhat reminiscent of what Daddy James does in the NBA after his signature chase-down blocks.

With SportsCenter soon posting the clip on social media, an impressed Draymond Green shared Bronny’s highlight on his IG story saying, “Wow! This is impressive for 2 reasons… The Block! And had he got dunked on, it too would’ve been on SportsCenter.” While Bryce’s athleticism has been on display for a long time now, what caught Draymond’s eye was his fearless attitude of going toe-to-toe with his opponents when he understands the consequences of getting dunked on in the era of social media. Continuing his praise for Bryce, Green wrote, “The lack of care or as one would say the Fu*ks not given is what I like.” Followed by a shrug emoji.

Has Bryce James shown NBA potential at Nike EYBL?

While Bronny has already earned the honor of becoming his father’s teammate, very soon Bryce might follow in his brother’s footsteps to do the same. Part of the Class of 2025, the 17-year-old will be eligible to enter the NBA draft two years from now. And so far, he has shown that he might actually be able to achieve that dream. Although Bryce impressed the world with his fearless defensive mentality with the monster block, last month he took over the internet with his one-handed dunk on the break. Even LeBron and Savannah were filled with pride when Bryce replicated his dad’s signature tomahawk dunk in-game. “Sheeeeeshhhh!!!!! Calm down Bryce.” Savannah wrote that LeBron had simply shared the clip on his IG story.

Moreover, Bryce also showcased his scoring ability when he put up 21 points against Cameron and Cayden Boozer, NBA legend Carlos Boozer’s twins, back in May. Yes, there are still a lot of areas where Bryce needs to improve before he can be considered an NBA-level talent. However, from whatever we have seen so far, and him being just seventeen right now, he sure looks to be on the right path. Do you agree?
