It’s here. Team USA is so close to getting that gold. As expected, Serbia really gave them a tough time. So much so that were it not for the combined efforts of LeBron James and Steph Curry, sparked by a Kevin Durant-Devin Booker flurry of 3s, they would have been severely humiliated. But that’s why the 2024 squadron is aptly named the Dream Team 2.0. All they have to do is get through their final opponents – France, and the gold is theirs. Victor Wembanyama and Co. just defeated an aggressive, battle-hardened Germany to reach the finals.
Despite that, Gilbert Arenas believes they don’t have what it takes to take on the Steve Kerr-led side. As the Gil’s Arena crew discuss the insane comeback by Team USA against Serbia, the ex-Warriors star weighs in on how, despite Wemby’s dominance at his home court, they hardly pose any threat to the elite squad of Team USA. “F**k no! Hell no! Not even close,” Arenas burst.
Now, this outburst wasn’t simply patriotic.

‘Agent Zero’ has a list of reasons supporting his claim. “They can’t dribble, they can’t bring the ball up the court, their guards is not – they can’t handle pressure like that. They don’t have a pick-and-roll system. So, it’s basically, try to find Wemby and then now Wemby is going to go into his bag and try to do [something].”
“Other than that, they don’t have anybody that has, ‘We’re going to give you the ball. You need to give us buckets!’ They don’t have that on France. That’s the problem,” Gil concluded. Hilariously enough, in the midst of this, Rashad McCants seemed to be rooting for France. Lexie Brown, sitting next to McCants, dubbed him “Anti-American” for his antics.
The former NBA first-round pick, while defending France, referred to himself as ‘we,’ which he took care to pronounce as the French ‘oui’. Having heard enough, Brown said, “‘We’ is crazy. You’re not from France.” Ever the jokester, McCants responded, “Yes, I am.”
The closest connection the ex-Wolves guard has to France is when he signed with the French club Strasbourg IG in 2012. But hey, when in Rome, right?
McCants’ support might not be completely unfounded as Victor Wembanyama and Co.’s performance against Germany shows promise
Guerschon Yabusele, once again, came up big, leading the scorers with 17 points, as Isaia Cordinier was right behind him with 16, followed by Victor Wembanyama with 11. As was the case with Serbia, Germany did not go down easily. Although ‘The Blues’ took control of the game after the first quarter, the Deutsche, perhaps in a last attempt, went berserk.

With just a minute left in the game, a Dennis Schroder layup followed by a Franz Wagner deep three, cut the deficit to 70-68. The Frenchmen continued this until Nic Batum’s failed three-point attempt left the rebound with Wagner. Fortunately for France, it tumbled out of bounds, leaving the Germans fouling Wembanyama.
The unanimous 2024 NBA ROTY sank one of his two free throws, giving France a three-point lead. 10 seconds left on the clock. France then fouled Schroder, opting for free throws over a three-point strike which could tie the game and possibly send them to overtime. The Nets guard, for his part, connected on one of two from the charity stripe, following which Germany fouled Cordinier. Big mistake, as the 2022 EuroCup champion hit both his free throws, sealing the deal.
Well, what do you think? Could this group prove to be a challenge against Team USA? Let us know in the comments.
