The Suns’ trip to Memphis quickly turned into a nightmare for them. They headed into last night’s Grizzlies clash, hoping to continue the momentum from Sunday’s win against the Mavs. But chaos ensued when Kevin Durant shoved Desmond Bane during a heated back and forth in the third quarter. Sure enough, the Slim Reaper got penalized with a technical foul for his actions. However, the Phoenix team’s misery didn’t end there as Devin Booker learnt it the hard way.

Later in the game, Devin Booker received a tech for trash-talking the Grizzlies after a made basket. Obviously, the officials’ decision didn’t sit well with him, and he even called them out during the post-game interview.

“The officials have to do a better job of understanding it is a high-intensity game. There’s a lot at stake. Letting the whistle fly. Like my tech shouldn’t have happened,” cited D-Book!

Well, the game was already very chippy before the incident occurred and Booker getting a tech for merely showing his emotions could have hurt his team. Fortunately, Bane missed the resulting free throw, and the game continued with the Suns up by one. But by publicly calling out the officials and questioning their call in frustration, DB risked a potential five-figure fine from the league.

When Booker asked the official for an explanation for the questionable call, the referee mentioned it was a consequence of KD’s actions. Booker revealed, “We tied the ball game up. So, I said, ‘They were just talking all that s—, we’re right back in it.’ Then I asked the ref, ‘Did you hear what I said?’ He said, just what I repeated, and said, ‘I have to keep the game under control after the situation that just happened.”

Yes, the official penalized Booker because he was trying to avoid the situation from escalating like it did with KD and Bane. Called a tech for being a good samaritan?

Kevin Durant and Desmond Bane clashed heads before Devin Booker’s tech!

In the closing seconds of the third quarter, Durant turned the ball over as rookie Cam Spencer intercepted his pass. Adding insult to injury, the rookie’s defensive play initiated a fastbreak on the other end, and Cam hit a three-pointer over KD to extend the Grizzlies’ lead to five points.

Hyped after the play, he began taunting the Slim Reaper, which Durant clearly didn’t like. In retaliation, the Suns star pointed at Spencer and started trash-talking him. The ratings went up with that, for sure!

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Suns' stars too hot-headed, or are the refs just too quick with the whistle?

That’s when Bane stepped in to rescue his rookie, going face-to-face with KD. After a heated exchange, Durant shoved Desmond, while their teammates separated them before the situation could escalate. Sure enough, the official deemed KD’s reckless actions “unsporting,” and he received a tech, along with Cam Spencer, who started the whole thing with his taunt.

Unfortunately, Booker faced the consequences of his teammate’s actions as he might not have received a tech had KD not gotten into a physical altercation just minutes prior. To make matters worse, the Suns lost the game by two points. A forgettable night for Booker, indeed!
