The Los Angeles Lakers’ defeat at the hands of Minnesota Timberwolves hasn’t been easy for Anthony Davis. Given that he decided to play through his injury just to get the ball going, AD’s frustration is justified. But giving in to stress does not really provide the desired (or any) results.

With the Wolves’ 118-111 victory tonight, the Purple and Gold are on a four-game losing streak. Talking to reporters post-game, Davis said, “It’s the NBA season. There’s going to be ups, there’s going to be downs. Right now we’re in that down period.”

Except for their win against the Spurs after the In-Season Tournament, the rest have been a deflating series of losses. Losing once again to the very same San Antonio was the first blow. Not having LeBron James added to the woes. Even so, Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves have been incredible in their leadership.

Tonight saw AD with 31 points while Reaves had 20 for the team. While the team effort was there, as it has been in the past games, the road game has been a major “down period” for the team. In fact, before giving his two cents on the next path he wants the team to take, Anthony Davis practically slammed a harsh truth in the face.

“No one’s going to feel sorry for us”: Anthony Davis gives it straight

While Davis might have closed the post-media talks on a promising note, it wasn’t before he ensured that his Lakers understood the situation they were in. It also served to give us a glimpse of the qualities that will eventually come in handy as soon as he accepts the mantle from King James. It sucks to lose. No moral victories, no one is going to feel sorry for us. We’re not feeling sorry for ourselves, just gotta figure it out,” AD said.

There is a reason why Davis knows this. We don’t have to go too far behind or even six months back to see just what exactly the Los Angeles Lakers are capable of. Their In-Season championship run is all the proof we need. Starting the regular season with LeBron doing the lion’s share of work, Davis constantly blinking in and out, Reaves underperforming to AD’s historic night on the IST victory, and everything in between, the Purple and Gold showed the world what happens when they play with a purpose.

There’s also that little bug of injuries. While this season has seen a lot of teams struggle with injured players, the Lakers do predominantly have a veteran-concentrated roster. So for Ham to decide on a depth chart and stick with it becomes somewhat of a challenge. But that is what Darvin Ham and the coaching staff will be prioritizing, as per ESPN.

As Davis mentioned, some “effort” and “energy” can hopefully give them a win over the OKC Thunder. The Thunder for their part just demolished the Los Angeles Clippers tonight. No pressure or anything!
