Victor Wembanyama came into the league as one of the most hyped draft prospects since LeBron James in 2003. The hype surrounding the French phenom was justified because the NBA had never seen a player of Wemby’s size play like a guard. Although the Spurs have struggled in Victor’s first season, Wembanyama has more than held his end of the bargain.

Wembanyama is an exceptionally gifted basketball player with generational capabilities. However, in a recent interview, Wemby revealed another passion of his besides basketball.

People are quite aware of Wembanyama’s generational basketball talents. But, what might surprise many people is that Victor is a voracious reader. He inculcated the habit of reading when he was a boy in elementary school. During an interview, he said, “I’m saying before elementary school, this is when I started reading books basically. I read a lot during my whole elementary school, but I read less and less in middle school, and then I started again in high school. It’s just something I love to do.” Victor ranks American author Brandon Sanderson very highly because Sanderson is Victor’s favorite author. Elantis, Warbreaker, A Memory of Light, and Towers of Midnight are some of the bestsellers that Sanderson has written.

Express News’ Tom Orsborn also interviewed several players like Tre Jones and Julian Champagnie about Victor’s insatiable appetite for reading. Jones remarked, “He is getting through ‘em. It’s not like he is just stuck on page one. He is not doing it for the pictures. He is reading.” Teammate Champagnie’s remarks about Wemby’s reading habits perfectly encapsulates his love for reading. Champagnie said, “On the plane, before games, he’s carrying a book. You might catch him going to the bus with a book in his hand.”
