Splash Bros. The ones who changed the game. Dribbling maestro Stephen Curry alongside an off-the-ball threat, Klay Thompson, has been a dream pairing. Both of them have limitless range and with Curry magnetizing most of the defense, Klay can just cash in. This playing style has already brought four titles and if more follow it will barely be a surprise.?

Before they even won a championship, the moniker Splash Bros was bestowed upon the two Warriors. A player not known for deep shooting wanted to become the Third Splash Bro, but failed miserably.?

Stephen Curry wasn?t pleased by some sub-par shooting

It took Steph till 2014 and Klay Thompson till 2015 to become an All-Star in the league. However, they were already torching defenses and earned their reputation as the future of the league. Thanks to that, in 2014, both Splash Bros made it to the USA Basketball roster for the FIBA World Cup.?

In the training camp built around the World Cup, the all-time three-point leader was practicing alongside another future All-Star, DeMarcus Cousins. He was not an All-Star when he joined the squad, but he was putting up All-Star-level numbers for the Sacramento Kings. However, shooting from three wasn?t the strong suit for the man who does most of his damage in the post-area.?

In a video by NBA on ESPN, Boogie is seen shooting long-range jumpers from the right wing during the Camp. Answering, ?Are you DeMarcus?? the Center replies, “The Third Splash Brother.? After saying that, the Center?s long-range attempt clanks the left side of the ring. To this Curry says, “I don?t get that on camera, right??

The confident low-block phenom then states, “We gotta we gotta get it right.? The former All-Star then shoots again, and his jumper is short this time. To this Curry quips, “We?re still taking applications, don?t worry.??This draws laughter from the rest of the squad members.?

The Center did join the Splash Bros, but his journey was short-lived.

Since he left the Sacramento Kings in 2017, things didn?t work out for the power-player. Not having a consistent three-point shot and injury troubles made it harder for him to sustain in the three-point-obsessed league. However, just after leaving the Kings, and joining the Pelicans, the Center did make 104 triples in 48 games on 35%, nailing more than two a game. Just after that season with the Pels, Boogie joined the Splash Bros. He averaged 16 points a game, although he made less than one three a game.

Because he didn’t need to take threes for a stacked long-range-shooting squad, his play was fueling the team well in the middle. But then-GM Bob Myers didn?t want him back. To Cousins, he said, ?People are afraid of how you are going to act.“?Therefore, locker room troubles may have hampered his long-term prospects too.
