The Golden State Warriors have missed the playoffs this year, yet the Warriors dynasty is attempting to learn from their mistakes. Draymond Green and his team stars like Steph and Klay might enter with more thrilling spirit next season.
When it comes to thrill, there is nothing better than the Dubs team from 2016, 2017, and 2018. It had NBA MVPs and players with a strong hold on the game on the roster, like Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green. Yet they could not complete their hat trick for Championships in the 2018-19 season. What was the reason for the loss of such a stacked team? It seems that Draymond has figured it out.
While appearing on his YouTube podcast ‘The Draymond Green Show,’ the 34-year-old reflected on the defeat against the Toronto Raptors in the NBA finals. Interestingly, Nick Nurse, the coach of the Raptors at that time, was also present during the discussion on the show. While Nurse mentioned how he instructed Kyle to play on certain positions and Fred to go “nose-to-nose” against Draymond, the Warriors center interfered to claim that they were not that accustomed to box-and-one defense at that time.

Though the Dubs use it now, as Nurse further mentioned, Green humorously responded, “We most definitely use it now, it cost you[Dubs] a championship. …We forgot how to shoot, we forgot how to dribble, we forgot how to pass.”
Apparently, it was a nightmare for the Warriors scorers like Green and Curry, who could not get past the Raptors’ defense well. The former team was not that great at three-point shooting after Kevin Durant got out due to injuries. Because of this, they couldn’t enter the box, and the 3-pointers were already at their lowest. The Splash brothers tried to balance the game, but it was not enough to secure the championship.
What was Draymond Green’s performance throughout the 2018-19 season?
The 2018-19 season was great for Draymond Green as a center, as he averaged 7.3 rebounds over 66 games in the regular season that year. Though the regular season was an accelerating start, he excelled against the Clippers in the first round of playoffs. Green even scored a triple-double in that series. Moreover, he made a career-high record of over 10 rebounds in 7 games. On top of that, Green also matched Magic Johnson in holding the second most numbers of triple-doubles in a single possession.
The stats were going great for Draymond Green. However, his on-court argument with Durant definitely seemed like an off-thing to the NBA community. When the Dubs faced the Lakers at the Staples Center, both of them had a heated exchange after Green refused to pass the ball to his teammate, KD. Ultimately, the scuffle escalated to the locker room, as well as the media. Even Durant admitted the seriousness of the issue later.

The following year, the NBA MVP joined the Nets, leaving the Warriors in the lurch. Though the situation seems to be normal between KD and Green, it might be the reason for throwing the team off balance that year. What’s your opinion about it? Let us know in the comments.
