LeBron James could’ve had a piece of MLS glory
Back in 2013, David Beckham and LBJ were in intense discussions to craft a MLS Franchise in Miami. Back then James was a member of the Miami Heat and Beckham had retired as a PSG player in May. Since DB7 had spent around five years in MLS, he knew the landscape of the league well. He played for LA Galaxy but wanted to create a new franchise and chose Miami as his destination.
Therefore, reaching out to Heat superstar and enthusiastic investor King James was natural. During that period, LBJ stated, “David has become a good friend of mine over the last few years. I think it would be great for this city to have a football club for sure. There’s interest on both sides, but it’s preliminary talks.”
However, things didn’t work out then, and later the former football phenom mostly because stadium proposals fell and things were taking a lot of time. It took till the late 2010s to get a stadium built and in January 2018, MLS granted the Miami Beckham Group the right to a new Franchise based in Miami.

In the 2020 season, the Inter Miami Franchise, co-owned by Beckham made its debut. However, LBJ couldn’t be part of the ownership after missing out on the stakes. Now, they have accomplished a huge feat by winning the Leagues Cup, perhaps the biggest moment in Franchise’s history.
On this occasion, Kyle Kuzma, a former Lakers teammate of James also acknowledged Miami’s heroics.
Beckham celebrates
Kuzma posted a story with the line “Yessir @intermiamicf” that featured Beckham’s post. The original Beckham was captioned, “I’m so proud tonight of what we have achieved as La Familia 🩷🖤 Gracias for everything MIAMI @intermiamicf ”

These celebrations invoke the memory of Beckham winning two MLS cups with LA Galaxy back in early 2010s. However, currently, Miami looks ways removed from such a humungous achievement.
