“No fear. You ready? @celtics,” wrote Tom Brady back in June, highlighting who he supported in the 2024 Finals. Growing up in an environment that prioritized football, the former NFL player also dabbled in basketball from time to time. The rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird made Brady a lifelong fan of the LA Lakers and the Boston Celtics. So, the Mavs did not have a chance of receiving his support in the Finals. However, ‘circumstances’ may have compelled the legend to support Luka Doncic and Co. recently.

The 7x Super Bowl Champion was amongst the thousands present for the ongoing matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks. As the game progressed, with Jalen Brunson making some free throws; Mavericks head coach, Jason Kidd, could be seen having a conversation with Tom Brady. The same was made possible as the NFL legend had occupied an exclusive spot on the edge of the court. From their personal interests to team strategies, the conversation could have been about literally anything.

It makes sense that Tom Brady may have indicated support for the Mavericks by talking to Kidd. After all, Knicks fans did not give him the warmest of welcomes during his recent visit to Madison Square Garden. Almost two weeks ago, Brady had attended the matchup between the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets. As the camera turned towards him, boos started to erupt from all sides of the stadium. The announcers also addressed this as a ‘mixed’ response. Many attendees even stood up to make their critique known.

Unfazed, or perhaps looking to shut down the haters, the former athlete threw two signed footballs toward the crowd. This ended up converting the boos into cheers. This shows that sports fans can hate a rival with a passion. However, they still wouldn’t mind getting signed memorabilia from the player!

The world of sports is huge. So, it’s not uncommon for an NBA fan to also show an interest in the NFL. For New Yorkers who’ve been following both sports, Tom Brady represents the face of a competitor. While the renowned Quarterback did win 7 Super Bowls, he also lost 3 of them. Two of them came when the player’s former team, the New England Patriots, went up against the New York Giants.

The sting continues to even hurt years later, as Tom Brady revealed back in February, “I’m not over any of the Super Bowl losses” with a laugh. Neither are New Yorkers, it seems. Fortunately, it seems the NFL legend can switch NBA allegiances to his liking.

Despite the animosity/rivalry/feud between the Patriots and Giants, the NBA is a different sport. That is why Tom Brady does not hesitate in speaking even positive opinions about the Knicks, if he wishes to. The NFL legend may have shown his support to the Dallas Mavericks for now. However, he still hasn’t ruled out the prowess of Jalen Brunson and Co. yet.

Tom Brady assures Jalen Brunson that the Knicks may reach the NBA Finals in the coming years: “I have a feeling you’re gonna get there”

Back in August, Tom Brady came in as a guest on a special segment of the ‘Roommates Show’. Hosted by Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, it was certainly a weird sight for any New Yorker who held a dislike for Brady and the Patriots deep inside them. Fortunately, the trio engaged in a fun and casual conversation.

As discussion ran rampant about their respective sports, Brady touched base on his Super Bowl wins, revealing, “To win the Super Bowl is just a whole another thing. It’s probably like getting to the (NBA) Finals. It’s hard to get there, and then once you get there, now you got to really compete.”

Replying to this remark, both Brunson and Hart stated, “Yeah, we don’t know what that is yet.” Fortunately, the two NBA stars had a supporter and believer sitting across them. Brady said in response, “I have a feeling you’re gonna get there”.

With the acquisition of Karl-Anthony Towns, including the retention of key players, the Knicks possess an advantage. They already hold a 10-7 win record, giving them a higher standing than some of the other Eastern Conference franchises. So, who knows? Maybe this season could favor them. If it does, Knicks fans must remember to not boo Tom Brady if he visits MSG for the NBA Finals.
