You would think with the kind of popularity the James’ have, they would be used to all those hate comments, negative criticisms, and the outside noise, right? Wrong! At the end of the day, they are still a family. And when these attacks are directed at their kids, it’s natural to lose their cool. Or, in the case of Savannah James, turn into a Mama bear.
Vannah might have had a tough time getting comfortable in the limelight. However, she has had no qualms about going head-on against whoever dared insult her children—even if it is “with a baby on my head,” as she promptly points out in the inaugural episode of Everybody’s Crazy Season Three.
As the mother of three and her co-host, April McDaniels, listened to a voicemail where the caller asked how the women dealt with negativity at their kids’ games, Savannah James recounted a story of an intense experience she had at one of Bronny’s games. “Short story: When I had the baby on my hip, about to go and try to fight a man; he was flicking Bronny off in a game,” she said, by way of an explanation as to why she was trying to fight a grown man.

“You know how you say, ‘You got to be an adult and talk to the people head on.’ I marched up them bleachers with Zhuri – little, tiny Zhuri. What am I going to do? I’m talking to a man like, ‘So, you flicking my son off? Like that’s what we doing at this game?’ ‘Oh no! I was doing that to my son. That’s what we do.’ Okay. So, now you crazy, just randomly flipping your son off while he playing the game. That’s odd, but yeah, all right. So, yeah, like it’s crazy stuff! People are just just crazy.”
It is no wonder Savannah found the man’s behavior completely strange. It was, after all, unusual to flip one’s own son in a public setting. But she understood that there cannot always be an explanation for why people act a certain way, essentially realizing that some spectators’ behaviors can be baffling.
But she does have a solution to it all.

Fame is like a two-sided coin. There’s the advantageous side, and then there is the disadvantageous side. The disadvantageous side of fame often comes to mind for Mama James when she attends her son’s games. With the constant spotlight on her family, she described how there “was a target on our back” every time she walked into a game.
The constant attention from the crowd, filled with whispers and criticisms, made it difficult to focus on the matchup. So, did that mean she turned into Sonya Curry every time these remarks irked her? As much as she would have loved to go at everyone like Mama Curry does, without any care in the world, Savannah has found something else that works better for her.
“I try to stay away. Not stay away from the game, just stay away from the people, so I don’t hear the banter,” she said in her podcast. At her core, Vannah is a mom. And there is only so much criticism a mother can take, especially from total strangers who judge the children based on what they see in court or the media.

Aside from turning a deaf ear, the millionaire entrepreneur also learned another method—breathing techniques. Learning them was necessary because she had to talk herself down “from cussing people out.” And it worked.
This protective instinct speaks volumes about how difficult it can be to manage public scrutiny while maintaining a sense of normalcy for her children.
