Should the $60 million Lakers star be worried about his job with Edwards on the rise?

In the NBA world, it’s not very easy to spot an explosive youngster who can take control. Anthony Edwards is one such rare talent. Notably, the 22-year-old shouldered the Minnesota Timberwolves to the first-ever Conference Finals in 20 years, averaging 27.6 points in the playoffs. While everyone would want a teammate with this dominance, a former Wolves star thought otherwise and traded out.

It’s none other than Los Angeles Lakers guard, D’Angelo Russell.

Featuring in Run Your Race‘s latest podcast, D’Lo certainly had a lot to say about Ant-Man. Before joining the Lakers, mid-season in the 2022-23 season, the $60 million-worth star spent four seasons with the Wolves. That meant Russell was already a year old at Minnesota when Edwards joined after the 2020 draft.

Speaking of Anthony Edwards, D’Lo said, “He’s dope bro. Everything about him, I’m a fan. He puts the work in is one and then, two, you can just, he humbly believes in himself. You don’t see a lot of guys that walk that fine line of arrogance and humble”. Russell also added, “He can learn how to pass a little better, but I think he’s flawless. To be honest, yeah, he’s a flawless NBA player.”

While the 28-year-old heaped praise for the rising star, he switched up when one of the hosts brought up Ant-Man’s age.

D’Angelo Russell revealed why he left the Wolves, saying, “I mean, that’s why I’m trying to just get my little money and get the f**k out of his way. I always tell them, bro, I’m trying to get out of their way, bro. Look I’mma be the old young dude that just I’ll be like, ‘damn this ain’t even 30 yet but sh*t, I have been around for a minute,” and proceeded to symbolically sweep the money.

D’Lo may have saved his money, but not the on-court face-off against Anthony Edwards

Should the $60 million Lakers star be worried about his job with Edwards on the rise?

Have an interesting take?

Several reports suggested that D’Angelo Russell has an estimated net worth of $60 million and is likely to further solidify it in the future. Following D’Lo‘s disappointing run in the 2024 playoff, everyone expected the star to opt out of his player option and look for a different franchise. However, he stuck with the side and signed the $18.6 million player option. Next season, Russell will enter free agency, and his performance in the 2024-25 season will determine his future with the Lakers.

On the other hand, D’Lo revealed that he found his way out of the Wolves, worrying about losing his job to Ant-Man. But, it seems like Russell will still have a problem facing the 22-year-old. Notably, in the previous season, when the Wolves took on the Lakers, Edwards had himself locked in on D’Lo, guarding him in a particular play. The Lakers guard did what he does best, attempting to draw a foul near the rim, and screamed “Aye” after releasing the layup.

Anthony Edwards, in response, said, “Hell nah, ain’t no aye,” keeping it tough for the Laker. Even though Russell escaped Ant-Man by changing teams, he may have to face him on the court regularly. In fact, they may even face an intense playoff series in the upcoming season. Will D’Lo get the better of Ant-Man then? Let us know in the comments.
