After a great stall in the trade market for quite a time, DeMar DeRozan finally got a new home for himself, landing at the Sacramento Kings in a three-team sign-and-trade deal. However, it seems that the 6x NBA All-Star might not bring that big of a change with his presence on the Kings roster. As the DeMar trade has just added to what the Kings already had, ‘The Offense.‘ On that end, the Kings might become impeccable with a wing-like DeMar, who even turned a team like the Chicago Bulls into a worthy candidate for the playoffs. They are seeded 9th in the Eastern Conference right now. However, the catch is despite being a completely offensive team, the Kings could not even make the playoffs last season.
That’s what is irking most of the NBA community how an elite playmaker like D-Roz is going for something that troublesome. It is worth noting that Deebo is a 34-year-old league veteran and has not won an NBA title yet. Even former basketball player Gilbert Arenas seemed to be bothered by the fact that DeMar joined the Kings, as he said on ‘Gil’s Arena’, “F**k the Kings man.“ Further adding some brutal insinuations to DeMar’s new home, as he took inspiration from former Lakers coach Phil Jackson’s statement. “I need to call DeMar man like, don’t you like big cities, bro? You keep going to these weak a** cities. …(DeRozan) is going down to Hicksville…a stank, ugly city.”
The tradition of calling Sacramento a “cow town” was started with Phil’s statement in 2002. The talked about statement came out when the Lakers were about to face the Kings in the Western Conference NBA Finals. Basketball genius Jackson also said that time that “semi-civilized” people inhabit the city of Sacramento.

Putting aside all the biases, does DeMar DeRozan’s departure to the Kings is for any better?
Last season, DeMar DeRozan averaged 24 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists with the Chicago Bulls. Also, he finished as a second runner-up to Kia’s Clutch Player of the Year list. Overall, a playmaker like him brings diversity to to already solidified offense of the Kings. They have got De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis leading their fluid offense for now. Both of them averaged 26.6 and 1.4 points, respectively, last season. However, DeRozan can come in handy against a string defense and is also compatible with Mike Brown’s kinetic offense on the court.
DeRozan’s fit with point guard Fox is incomparable since both of them create plays on the perimeter. On top of that, D-Roz will also get to play with Domantas’ dribble plays that he might adapt quickly. Although Sabonis is one of those players, DeRozan has rarely played alongside in his whole NBA career. When there is no space in the paint or inside the arc, DeRozan will create new ways of scoring rather than going with the usual tactics.
All-in-all DeRozan will keep balancing the pressure on the room as the team is still weak there. He is someone dependable and brings scores to the team no matter the situation. So there are hopes that the Kings might take it to playoffs this year with DeMar DeRozan’s luxury. However, can they realize this dream? Let us know in the comments.
