Did the Timberwolves make a mistake trading Towns, or was it a necessary move for the team?

Friday night was indeed a special night for sports fans. At one end, the NBA teams competed on Day 2 of the In-season Tournament (NBA Cup). On the other hand, the biggest boxing event of the year played out. New York Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns had the perfect opportunity to enjoy these events on his birthday, surrounded by friends and family. Amid this wholesome moment, he received a message from his former team’s owner, Alex Rodriguez, for the first time since the trade.

Even though the Timberwolves look promising enough to clinch the title, the franchise has a lot of internal conflicts. The team has been dealing with an ownership battle. Around this time, the team sent out Towns, who played 9 seasons for the Wolves from his rookie season to the Knicks in the 2024 off-season. The sudden trade indeed left the big man startled, but he came to terms with it, as he found his spot in the Knicks as a starting number 5.

Meanwhile, Alex Rodrigues, the minority owner of the Wolves, dropped a wish for Karl-Anthony Towns‘ 29th birthday, breaking his silence since the blockbuster trade. The baseball legend took to Towns’ latest birthday post on IG and wrote, “HBD big fella”

Last night, the Knicks took on their arch-rivals Brooklyn Nets at Madison Square Garden. With two bigs already out with injuries, the NY side went with Jericho Sims as the starting center. Kat, who was listed out with a left knee contusion, was in attendance catching up on the game from the courtside, donning a black pullover and matching pants.

Hours later, Towns celebrated his birthday with friends and family in the same outfit. Guess what? The troop didn’t miss out on the boxing action either, as they viewed the game on the big screen placed at the location. Nevertheless, what’s next for A-Rod and his stake in the Wolves?

Amid Karl-Anthony Towns’ absence, will A-Rod attain majority ownership of the Wolves?

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Timberwolves make a mistake trading Towns, or was it a necessary move for the team?

Have an interesting take?

With a 7-6 record, the Wolves are currently floating in the 9th seed of the Western Conference. Karl-Anthony Towns’ trade certainly hasn’t helped the Minnesota side. In the last season, the team competed with the OKC Thunder and Denver Nuggets for the top seed. Now, everything seemed to have changed.

On the other hand, the ownership battle is going in full swing. Following ESPN’s report on A-Rod and Marc Lore’s possession of $940 million in a separate bank account, the duo engaged in an arbitration hearing earlier this month. While A-Rod is already ready to wire the amount to seal the deal, Taylor expressed that he no longer wants to sell the team. Will the arbitration hearing help the two parties conclude?

Well, “Not totally” as per ESPN, but the hearing will allow the parties to get in a particular direction to end the problem. If the arbitrators rule for Glen Taylor, then he can stick to his decision of not being willing to sell the team. On the other hand, if the arbitrators rule for A-Rod & Lore, then Taylor would be compelled to sell the team. Importantly, Rodriguez will need 23 out of 30 votes to be approved as new owners.

Will A-Rod become the new majority owner of the Wolves? Let us know in the comments.
