After a long and tough road, the Boston Celtics have finally done it. Winning their 18th title, the Celtics have made history yet again for the most titles won by a franchise. Behind this championship team was their core, Tatum, Brown, and Al Horford, the trio, who’s been there for the longest. While Horford left the Celtics in 2019, he made his return just two years later. Since then, he’s appeared in two Finals series, as he finally got a championship under his name.

Horford is also the first player from the Dominican Republic with a ring. Excited and proud by her brother’s accomplishment, Al’s sister, Anna Horford congratulated him on Twitter, MY BIG BROTHER IS AN @NBA CHAMPION!!!.  However, as normal and wholesome as this tweet may be, there is quite some backstory to it.

Recently, Anna’s tweet about Philadelphia fans sent a series of hateful replies on Twitter. Philly fans weren’t so happy with her which led to a long feud on social media. One of the main reasons why Philly fans hate the Horford family is because of Al’s past with the Sixers. Following his first stint with the Celtics, Horford joined the Sixers for a season. However, the center left the very next season, joining the Thunder where he’d also spend a single season.

He made his return to the Celtics becoming one of the key players of the team. There is some tension between Philadelphia fans and Horford, however, all haters are at a halt, witnessing Al win his first title. Horford deserved this ring, winning his first title in his 16-year career. When we look at Horford’s past, it is visible why the 6’9 center deserves to have a ring under his name.

While the 38-year-old averaged around 26 minutes a game, Horford wasn’t shy about taking up more responsibilities in the playoffs. Playing over 30 minutes each game, Horford put up 9.2 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while leading the postseason in 2-point efficiency at 72.1%. It is safe to say that Al steps up when the going gets tough. Not only that, despite playing a diminished role this season, as compared to his previous years in Boston, Horford’s performance in the playoffs has been very impressive.

He showed up when the team needed him the most, scoring 22 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, as he led the way getting past Cleveland in Game 5. It is great to see him put effort on both ends of the floor, knowing he has another year to go with the Celtics. Horford might call it a career following the 2024-25 season. However, with talks about a back-to-back championship already in place, the Dominican has one last run to go through.

It will be interesting to see the Celtics take the back-to-back run seriously. What are your thoughts on Horford’s longevity? Let us know in the comments.
