Damian Lillard and his now ex-wife Kay’la Hanson went their separate ways after being together for more than 10 years and married for two. The couple filed for divorce in early October this year, just before the NBA season rolled around. Since then, the two have been involved in a custody battle for their three children as Kay’la continues to demand sole custody.

Through it all, the hardest thing for Dame is not being able to see his children every day, and it weighs down on him more than anything else. Dame’s three children, Damian Jr. and twins, Kali and Kalii currently stay with their mother and the 7X All-NBA opens up about his woes of missing out on his children’s lives.

It’s the pain only a parent could understand and Dame, having found himself in this muddle regrettably says about his situation, “So being away from my kids, I wake up every day like, man, they are not seeing my face today physically. I can’t hug them. I can’t go pick my son up from school. I can’t pick up my twin daughter and son. It’s things that you just can’t do being this far away“. This is especially hard for Dame, who finds great joy in spending time with his children and being there for them.

For reasons that are understandable, he cannot bring himself to be content as he reveals, “When you get stripped of that, and for a great reason, there is a lot to be thankful for. But it’s just hard.” Dame obviously won’t be able to spend Christmas with his little ones as he has a big game coming up. However, Big Game Dame had already arranged a special day for them in advance.

Christmas came early for Dame as he was able to fulfill his wish to spend the holiday with his three children. He spent time with them last week at his Milwaukee home, decorating the tree, and having them open their presents. “It’s Christmas, so I want them to see the lights. I want them to open up gifts….But the most important thing for me is the time and make sure they feel my presence, feel the love and enjoy it while we have it, while I have them here,” Dame said, reminiscing about the happy times.
