“There’s no better guy than him,” Stephen Curry said after finalizing De’Aaron Fox as the brand ambassador for his Curry Brand. The Kings’ guard joined the brand last October, becoming its first athlete. But the decision wasn’t an easy one. A $6.5 billion company had a competing offer that was even more lucrative. However, there was one promise from the four-time champion that ultimately influenced Fox’s choice.
The topic came up when Fox appeared on The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis. Draymond was curious about how things came together with Curry Brand after Fox ditched Nike. “It meant the world,” Fox described his experience. “This is a brand that’s been around for decades and on a lot of things. So, just being able to be a part of that is a blessing, man. And, then doing it under Steph’s brand and being that first, the first player, that was big for me.”
But as mentioned earlier, the decision wasn’t easy for Fox. He explained, “So like for me at the end was, it was Curry brand. It was New Balance. Those were the two. And New Balance actually offered me more, but Curry brand offered me a sig. So I’m like, okay, I’m not hard on money. I’m good. I’m good.” Despite getting a better monetary offer from New Balance, Fox went ahead with Curry Brand as the latter was allowing him to launch his signature shoe, something that aligned better with his values.

Curry launched his brand in partnership with Under Armour four years ago and now, with big ambitions, he is striving for greatness. In September, Curry Brand released a glimpse of his first signature shoe, the Fox 1, featuring a unique design and vibrant colors. That wasn’t all, it may not have reached The Draymond Green Show but managed to grab attention recently for a different reason.
De’Aaron Fox experienced a slip-up moment with Stephen Curry’s brand
During a Kings versus Jazz game last month, Fox had an “oops” moment that unexpectedly shifted the focus to his shoe. While Fox was stealing the ball from Isaiah Collier and heading down the court, Collier accidentally stepped on his left foot. Naturally, Fox’s shoe came off which drew attention. Without missing a beat, Fox slipped his foot back into the Fox 1 shoe and went on to score a bucket. That was quite smoothly done.

Later, as expected the question popped up in the postgame press conference. While the moment was awkward for both Fox and the Curry Brand, he knew how to handle it. After explaining how the shoe came off, Fox said, “But, being able to get it back on and still being able to get to the basket, you know, that’s that was like the first thing going through my head.” Reflecting on how effortlessly he slipped the shoe back on, he ultimately did a subtle marketing boost for the brand.
