A massive $110 million extension signed by the 2024 DPOY Rudy Gobert was put to the test by the Lakers’ Rui Hachimura. A stunning dunk by the Japanese hooper has everyone riled up. In the second game of the new season, JJ Redick’s trusted man has just posterized Gobert. The reactions are pouring in on X. “Rui: Congrats on your contract extension. Here’s your gift,” tweeted one user, mocking the big man on his huge contract extension, which was announced recently.
Just minutes before the game, Shams Charania of ESPN announced Rudy Gobert’s contract extension. A slight pay cut for the 4x DPOY brings some relief to the luxury tax being paid by the Wolves, with 2024’s bill estimated to be $95.9 million. While the Frenchman’s salary might be a pay cut, his paycheck is not less in any way. $110 million for 3 years is not bad on any scale.
This contract provides him more security, as the 32-year-old star progresses in his career. He’s overlooked his $46.6 million player option for next season (new salary at $36 million approx. per season) and is now committed to the Wolves till the 2027-28 season.

Rudy is set to earn $43.8 million this season, with his contract extension kicking in from next season. However, he will have a player option after the second year of the new deal. While his contract extension was the freshest news around the hooper, a netizen got creative and went as far as to say, “He gonna get dunked on by Bronny”. Considering Bronny is a star rookie but only a second-round pick, who played only 3 minutes tonight, this comment must’ve hurt. Well, that wasn’t the end of all the drama on the internet.
Rudy Gobert can’t catch a break after getting dunked on and then blocked!
Bronny in his limited time today couldn’t post any stats. With just one offensive rebound and two missed shots, he could be no where near the rim. Coming into the league, he has been taking shots from the critics to the fans, everyone is on him because of his last name. To say that a second round pick, most likely headed to the G-League would dunk on 4x DPOY Gobert would be ludicrous and that’s what adds insult to injury.
Moments after being posterized by Rui Hachimura, the Wolves center was attempting a shot when he was again embarrassed. “Amd got blocked by him *laughing emoji*,” tweeted one user. The bad fortune for Gobert continued. It didn’t end there. The Frenchman was again blocked by Anthony Davis. AD swatted a dunk attempt from the Wolves’ big man, the reigning DPOY! While the Laker completes with Gobert for the DPOY, denying him a shot must have felt so satisfactory.
Another user, probably a Wolves fan, said, “NO NO NO GOBER” reacting to AD blocking Gobert. “That was personal lol… AD SO MUCH BETTER ON BOTH SIDES THAN GOFRAUD“, this user went as far as calling the 4x DPOY a fraud, and praised Davis for his 36-point haul and 16-rebound night.
What’s your perspective on:
Did Rui Hachimura just expose Rudy Gobert's $110 million vulnerability with that jaw-dropping dunk?
Have an interesting take?

“That’s for that France Olympics game. B—- a– refs and pepe le pieux f—-. Hope RUI KEEPS ON VIOLATING HIM.” This was a fan releasing his pent-up frustration from the Olympics and was satisfied to see Rudy Gobert having a not-so-good game.
“As soon as RUI went out offense went stagnant,” read another tweet in response to Hachimura blocking Gobert. Hachimura downed 18 points in the game. He was very aggressive in his play. Whether it was driving in and finishing or jumping to grab rebounds, he was excellent. Bulk of his buckets were during the first 3 quarters, which was essential because we saw something today that might not happen again for a while, LeBron James struggling. Rui’s strong defensive efforts have been particularly impressive. After a solid showing throughout the preseason, he continued to look dependable in the opening game of the regular season.
While it is true, that the Lakers slowed down a bit, they had gained a massive lead in the start. They were leading by 19 points in the first half and maintained a steady 13-point lead at the half-mark. The Timberwolves committed 15 turnovers in the first 3 quarters, allowing the Lakers to score 17 points off those mistakes. Despite this, the Minnesota side entered the fourth quarter, trailing by just eight points.

The final score was Lakers 110- Timberwolves 103. What were your thoughts on the game? Let us know in the comments below.
